A RIBBLE Valley photographer received the Royal seal of approval when the Queen chose one of her pictures as a birthday present.

The Queen, who celebrated her 80th birthday with a visit to ther Ribble Valley last spring, was given a photograph depicting Burholme Bridge in the Forest of Bowland by Helen Shaw, of Malkin Photography, Slaidburn.

The Bowland picture, chosen from a number of shots, was printed by Helen and sent to the Queen who has often said that the Trough of Bowland is one of her favourite places to visit in the UK.

Helen said: "I printed and mounted the picture myself but the Queen wished to choose the frame herself.

"I am obviously delighted, and honoured that she has chosen one of my images.

"I understand that she loves this area and I felt that it was appropriate to show her some of my images of the Duchy of Lancaster land for her to choose from."

In 2005, Helen's photographs reached the semi-final stage of the Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition.
