LANCASHIRE County Council has advertised for a senior policy advisor to monitor councils wanting to breakaway from its control.
The £38,000-a-year job was advertised after Hyndburn council and Blackburn with Darwen Council revealed they were holding talks about merging key departments to get rid of a tier of local government in Hyndburn.
Burnley Council leader Coun Gordon Birtswistle has expressed and interest in merging with Pendle.
And Preston and South Ribble are pursuing a merger and Lancaster hopes to go it alone.
