A MOTHER and son stage duo are celebrating nominations for the North West’s biggest amateur theatre awards.

Sally Hindle and her son Josh, from Barrowford, have both received nods for the NODA North West annual awards categories for their performances in East Lancashire musicals.

Sally is listed in the best supporting female in a musical for her role as Adelaide in Blackburn Musical Theatre Company’s Guys And Dolls, while Josh is listed among the best lead actors in a musical as Joe Casey in Our House by Accrington Theatre Group.

Also keeping fingers crossed in musical acting categories are Damien Marsh (Judd Fry, Oklahoma, Clitheroe) and Sophie Lord (Genevieve, The Baker’s Wife, Pendle Hippodrome).

Production teams are in the running, with Accrington’s Our House up for best staging, Charlotte Ormerod and Mille Hall listed for best choreography for X Rays review show Rhapsody, Andy Saunders for musical direction of La Cage Aux Folles by Burnley Light Opera Society, and Justine Sutcliffe for artistic direction of Todmorden Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society’s (TAODS) Rent - which has also been listed in the best musical category.

In the drama categories, Rossendale Players’ Graham Howorth and Isobel Belchin have been nomintated for their lead roles in Sylvia’s Wedding, with supporting actor and actress nods going to James Claxon as Corporal Jones in Dad’s Army by TAODS Dad's Army Corporal Jones Todmorden and Jackie Edington as Peggy in Pendle’s Hi-De-Hi.

Blackburn Drama Club’s Alison Bell has been listed for artistic direction of a drama for Flint Street Nativity, and TAODS’ play Dangerous Obsession is up for best drama.

Rounding off the categories, Burnley Pantomime Society’s Aladdin and X Rays Rhapsody are among the best panto and best review categories.

The awards take place at the Hilton hotel in Blackpool on May 6, as part of NODA NW’s annual conference weekend.
