Lord Ashcroft has sent a message of good luck to the cast of Jimmy Cricket’s musical ahead of its world premiere in Blackburn.
The pro-am production Let’s Hear It For The Wee Man, pays tribute to James Magennis the only man from Northern Ireland to be awarded the Victoria Cross in World War Two.
Conservative peer Lord Ashcroft has a personal collection of VCs, which is on show at the Imperial War Museum, and was started by the purchase of Magennis’ medal in 1986.
In the foreword for the show’s programme, he wrote: “I wish everyone associated with Let’s Hear it for the Wee Man, the best of luck.
“I hope, too, that the audiences get as much pleasure from learning about Magennis’ bravery as I have had from owning his VC.”
Proceeds from the first night will go to the Help For Heroes fund.
