Filming in Llandudno for an upcoming movie staring Eddie Izzard and Dame Judi Dench came to an abrupt end on Wednesday after a dispute between production crews and the Pier.

Production crews and cast members, including Izzard, Dame Judi and Jim Broadbent, were due to spend three to four days in the coastal town filming scenes for their upcoming movie Six Minutes to Midnight.

Having spent Tuesday shooting scenes on the Llandudno Promenade, the crews were due to spend a few days filming on the Pier.

However, Llandudno Pier owner Adam Williams said he was unable to meet the demands the film crews were asking for in such a short space of time.

Being a period drama movie, a lot of alterations would have had to have been made to the Pier and it would have been forced to close for at least a week in the peak season.

Mr Williams said: "It is sad, but I have to look at the future of the Pier.

"When they first contacted us they said we're just going to come down do some filming, but we need the pier shut for a week, in the high season.

"Talking to different people last week they wanted to do a lot of structural changes, it would have involved large amounts of work.

"I can't let that happen, I have the future of the Pier to think about. I need to make sure we can open after the film crews have gone.

"It would be irresponsible of me to let it (changing the pier for film crews) happen."

Llandudno mayor, David Hawkins, said the end result was disappointing but he sympathised with Mr Williams, who he said had been left in a difficult position.

He said: "I'm disappointed it has come to this. but hopefully it doesn't leave a sour taste in the filming crews mouth and we will see them come back to shoot movies in Llandudno in the future.

"I have got a lot of sympathy for Adam and the position he was in. There would have been a lot of disruptions and he couldn't go with their demands.

"He is a businessman, and there would have been a lot of disruptions to the shops."

Production crews left town on Wednesday and were said to be heading to Penarth where they are set to shoot the scenes that would have been filmed on the Llandudno Pier.

Mr Williams said this dispute had nothing to do with money, if anything the Pier would have lost money if filming had gone ahead.

Izzard was spotted filming on Tuesday on the Llandudno Promenade, however there was no sign of Dame Judi or Broadbent.
