2pm-4pm - People who care for those with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia are invited to a support group meeting in Nelson. It will take place at the Age concern Centre, in Leeds Road. Everyone who attends will have an opportunity to ask questions and talk through their concerns.

8pm - Bringing international performers and local musicians together, it’s two bands for the price of one at The Atrium’s upcoming gig. The Will Lenton Quartet plus the Neil C Young Trio play the Clitheroe jazz venue. Tickets cost £10 on the door, while it is £8 for members.

9pm - Bouncy Afro-pop duo TwoManTing stop off in Darwen as part of their UK winter tour for a gig at The Blackhorse Hotel, Redearth Road. Sierra Leonean master-drummer Jah-man Aggrey and virtuoso guitarist Jon Lewis use live guitar and percussion loops, to create a full band sound. Admission is free.

Friday, April 1

10am-4pm - Cakes, jewellery, cosmetics, handmade cards and beauty treatments will be on offer at a children’s play centre as part of a charity fundraising day. Giddy Kippers Party and Play Centre in Nelson is hosting the event to tie in with Yummy Mummy Week. All proceeds will go to Clic Sargent, the children’s cancer charity. 2pm - A 1940s singalong is being planned in Nelson as a pre-Mothers’ Day celebration. Nelson Manor Care Home is inviting people to take part in the singalong, which will be led by North West entertainer Maria Manchester. Guests and their children or carers will be able to enjoy the sounds of Vera Lynn, Doris Day, Elle Fitzgerald, the Andrews Sisters and many others. 10am-4pm - Coun Damian Talbot is hoping to meet everyone who campaigned to keep Shadsworth Leisure Centre, Blackburn, open at a free open day of sporting activities to be held.

10am-5pm - The sixth annual North West Inventors’ Expo to showcase new and exciting ideas takes place at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy. Hosted by Lancashire-based innovations organisation, Ideas NorthWest, Dennis Mendoros, chairman of Regenerate Pennine Lancashire, co-sponsors, will open the event. Inventions on display will include a wheelchair toilet, the Bath Step, the Poopsta one push pooper-scooper and the Blast Cleaning Gun.

11am-2pm - A mum is organising an autism awareness event in Sunnyhurst Woods. June Halstead, 45, whose son has the condition, set up the Together With Autism Group 10 months ago. Now, 70 families from throughout the borough attend monthly meetings for support and information. The event is at the Visitors’ Centre in Earnsdale Road. Activities such as a human train through the woods, games and face-painting will feature together with stalls.

1pm-3pm - A book sale is being held at 2nd Rossendale Scout Hall, Burnley Road, Bacup, ro raise money for the RNIB and the Scout groups and their bands. There will be refreshments, table top sales, cakes, and face painting.

1pm-4pm - A family fun day will be held at Livesey Children’s All Age Centre, Andrew’s Close, Blackburn.

7pm - A new volunteer group dedicated to making the most of the new Padiham Greenway will hold its first meeting. The Greenway, which runs along derelict railway line in the town, has been set up by Lancashire County Council. Now a volunteer group, Greenways Connected, has been set up to ensure it remains in good condition for walkers and residents. The group will meet at Pendle Baptist Church, in Pendle Street, Padiham.

7pm - Residents in the Southfield area of Nelson will be able to discuss local issues with police officers at a meeting. The police and communities together meeting will take place at the Willams Hall All Age Centre, in Barkerhouse Road.

7.30pm - Residents in Cliviger and Worsthorne will be able to discuss local issues at the next Police and Communities Together meeting. It will take place at The Reading Rooms, Worsthorne.
