What's on today

9.30am - A ‘men's breakfast’, with speaker Chris Slater, will be held at Molly Rigby’s, Padiham. Tickets are £5, available from Fred Birch, at St Leonard’s Church, or from Lynne Trudgill, at St Margaret’s, Hapton.

10am - A green-fingered group will be planting 30 trees to create a community orchard. Incredible Edible Rossendale is calling for volunteers to help plant the saplings in Edgeside Park, Crabtree Avenue, Waterfoot.

10am-3pm - Accrington will come alive this weekend with musicians, belly dancers and street performances. Accringon Alive will see performers around Broadway, in front of Accrington Library, the market and town hall and around the bus station.

11am-2pm - A range of local produce and crafts will be on offer at Barnoldswick’s Exchange and Market. It will take place at the Rainhall Centre.

11am-3pm - A Spring fair will be held at St Paul's Church, in Bridge Street, Ramsbottom. It will feature stalls, a cafe, home-baked cakes, second hand books and hand-made greeting cards. Free entry.

1pm-4pm - Burnley Tennis Club is holding an open day to attract more people to the sport. The event takes place at the club just of Belvedere Road (near the fire station). Both junior and adults players are welcome to attend. There will be the chance to take part in a mini tournament or just have a knock. 2pm - A fundraising event is being held in honour of a Burnley soldier who died in the former Yugoslavia nearly 16 years ago. Signaller Lee Harper, 20, died when he fell out of the back of an Army jeep while serving with the UN peace keeping force near Sarajevo. Now former colleagues and friends are arranging a Help for Heroes charity bash. The event is at Byerden House, Colne. Anybody who wants to help, call Mr Pearson in 07977 072673.

7pm - To mark the third anniversary of The Grand, in Clitheroe, a celebratory evening for all the family is being held with music from the venue’s annual talent competition Grab, The Grand's choir, and The John Wickham trio.Tickets £7.50 for adults and £5 under 18s from the box office on 01200 421599.

7pm - Military marches and traditional Scottish tunes as the Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers play for the first time with Accrington Pipe Band. The Fusiliers, who are appearing for the second time at Accrington Town Hall, are playing in support of Accrington Sea Cadet's local projects. Their Corps of Drums will be performing several numbers separately and will include their famous 'light sticks' display.

7.15pm - The Mayor and Mayoress of Rossendale, Councillor Trevor Unsworth and his wife, Anne, will be attending the Mayor of Hyndburn’s Variety Performance at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre, in Union Road.

7.30pm - The Garrick will present An Inspector Calls at The ACE Centre, in Cross Street, Nelson. Written by JB Priestley, the play is co-directed by Clifford Spencer and Alan Hargreaves and centres on the Northern, middle-class Birling family. Tickets cost £8.50 or £6 for students and under 16s. 7.30pm - Bacup Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society is presenting Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca at the Royal Court Theatre. Tickets £8, concessions £7.

Sunday, March 27

11am - Poplar Social Club, in Accrington, will hold its half- year general meeting. All members of the club are asked to attend.

12pm - MP Jake Berry will open Darwen CC’s Centenary celebrations at Birch Hall. All members are welcome to a pre-season get together and a free buffet will be served. A special Centenary flag will be raised.

1.30pm - Talented youngsters from Pendle will showcase their musical skills. The Muni Theatre, Colne, will host the event and organisers of Pendle Youth Choir’s teenage talent show are also encouraging young people to attend. As an added incentive, under-18s can get in free. The musicians and dancers will perform an array of songs.

7.30pm - Rossendale Players present costume drama The Day After The Fair, by Frank Harvey, adapted from a short story by Thomas Hardy. It's at The Millennium Theatre, Waterfoot. Monday, March 28

11am-3pm - Simon Garner, Blackburn Rovers’ all-time record goalscorer, will join staff, guests and tenants to mark the 10th anniversary of Twin Valley Homes. As well as the former Rovers hitman being on hand to sign autographs, The Bee will also broadcast from the organisation’s base on Wharf Street in Blackburn. There will also be a magician/balloon artist, Chinese dragon dance, live music, multi-cultural cuisine, and a basketball demonstration from the Blackburn Ballers.

5pm - Pro-Direct Soccer Academy holds its final trial for players hoping to join a professional club. Trials for under eights to under 11s will be held at the Powerleague Soccerdome in Blackburn.

3.30pm-5pm - Age Concern is running the My Friends Online programme, which will offer expert tuition to the over-50s and the chance to have a try at social networking using Facebook, chat rooms and other internet sites. 8pm - Bringing international performers and local musicians together, it’s two bands for the price of one at The Atrium’s upcoming gig. The Will Lenton Quartet plus the Neil C Young Trio play the Clitheroe jazz venue. Tickets cost £10 on the door, while it is £8 for members.

Friday, April 1

10am-4pm - Cakes, jewellery, cosmetics, handmade cards and beauty treatments will be on offer at a children’s play centre as part of a charity fundraising day. Giddy Kippers Party and Play Centre in Nelson is hosting the event to tie in with Yummy Mummy Week. All proceeds will go to Clic Sargent, the children’s cancer charity. 2pm - A 1940s singalong is being planned in Nelson as a pre-Mothers’ Day celebration. Nelson Manor Care Home is inviting people to take part in the singalong, which will be led by North West entertainer Maria Manchester. Guests and their children or carers will be able to enjoy the sounds of Vera Lynn, Doris Day, Elle Fitzgerald, the Andrews Sisters and many others.
