AN Accrington social club is preparing to welcome one of rock and roll’s original stars.

Charlie Gracie, whose 1957 number one Butterfly saw him become one of the first rock and roll perfomers to appear in Britain, is described as a pioneer of the early days of rock and roll.

He was named as a major influence by fans who include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker and Van Morrison.

Gracie charted in the UK and USA with hits including Fabulous, Wanderin’ Eyes, 99 Ways and I Love You So Much It Hurts and toured with Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley and his close friend, Eddie Cochran.
