WATCHING people cook shouldn’t be particularly interesting, yet somehow it really is!

After six weeks of blood sweat and tears from the contestants the final of Masterchef was here at long last. And this year it really has been anyone’s competition. All along it’s been so close with these three, it’s been too close to call.

Anyone could have won last night and they would have been deserved champions. The finalists — Andy Oliver, Mat Follas and Chris Gates — have been endlessly slicing dicing and grilling until there was no energy left in their bodies. In John Torodde’s words, “This is one TAFF competition.” And it is the judges, John, with his good pal and diamond geezer Gregg Wallace that have really made this series the best for me. Their enthusiasm for all things culinary is incredible. Their excitement has attracted 4.5million people each episode. And the pair’s food finesse has helped the new reinvented Masterchef secure a spot in the top 10 programmes recorded on Sky Plus.

It is such a strangely gripping competition but I’m not sure I agree with the result, I think they all deserved to walk away with the prize.

And it seems such a shame for the other two to have been within touching distance, yet been forced to hang up their aprons and just walk away.
