WE'VE had Eric and Ernie, the Two Ronnies and more recently the Hairy Bikers.

Now TV has unearthed another great, if slightly unwitting, double act - Oz and James.

Whoever came up with the idea to pair up wine expert Oz Clarke and Top Gear's James May deserves a bonus.

The premise of the series is that Oz takes Captain Slow (as he is known to Top Gear fans) on a tour of France in an attempt to educate his palate.

The fact that James May is a self-confessed beer lover and clearly regards wine tasting as a complete waste of drinking time merely adds to the fun.

May has been tasked to provide the transport for the trip and takes great pride in the Seventies Jaguar he has appropriated for the journey. Indeed he is as obsessed with his cars as Mr Clarke is with his wine.

Oz and James Big Wine Adventure could well become a classic if last night's first episode is anything to go by.

The couple bicker as though they were married.

Clarke appears to be in a permanent state of despair realising that he has been teamed up with philistine'.

His face after seeing May describe a vintage wine as tasting like Trebor Fruit Salad was an absolute picture.

I have always thought that James May was the underrated star of Top Gear.

While Clarkson may be the brash, outspoken one and Richard Hammond, the cute one, it was May's old fashioned, slightly schoolboy approach which added an extra dimension.

Now with his new partner I suspect cult stardom beckons.

After France, who knows where the pair will end up next.
