THE Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards play a key role in raising the profile of the area, according to a leading business chief.

Mike Damms, the chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce East Lancashire, said that by celebrating the work of local companies the annual awards helped to generate interest in the East Lancashire economy.

The awards take place on November 14 at Ewood Park, Blackburn, and entries are still being accepted.

Mr Damms said: “There is no higher accolade than being recognised by your peers and being good at what you do. Events like this provide the oxygen of publicity to show that we have inspirational people.

“There are innovative companies in the area and a lot of interesting businesses and what we have got to do is encourage more people to realise the success that there is in the area.”

And he believes that success ultimately breeds success and that awards such as this are an important part in attracting new companies to the area.

Mr Damms added: “The more help we can be given to show that setting up a business in East Lancashire the better. We need to show that setting up a company is a good career alternative.

“The companies we have are world class and we know that because they sell across the world.”

With categories such as Business of the Year, Re-cruitment and Development, Innovation, Social and Community Development, Technology, Export and Employee of the Year there should be something for all companies.
