What a lovely message Dave, so respectful & heartfelt, echoing what so many people thought of Big Phil. It meant so much to me & the family to see the time you’d taken to write this. Hope to see you on Thursday if you can make it, I’d love to buy you a pint :) Danielle

I'll really miss you big Phil. Who'll eat my spare sandwiches now! Too many people across society treat those coming to the end of their career with disrespect, I know you valued my opposite approach to this treating you as the vibrant, bright, highly intelligent Engineer who willingly guided me through some tough times as your team leader. You were organised but made me laugh that what took you 3 minutes to jot down with your pencil in your note book could take you 3 hours to do on your PC 😊.... but so what!!! what you gave to Manchester and to me personally was a touch of class, excellence and innovation. It was a complete pleasure working with you and you have left Manchester a much better place than when you arrived. I am positive you will have fun doing the structural inspections of the big fellas throne up in the sky and checking the stability of the clouds supporting the angel harps!...... I'm in no doubt you'll teach them how to get another million years out of those pearly gates! ... Have a good rest with your family who will be waiting for you, I will genuinely miss you personally and I can honestly say I had the pleasure of working with a calm, intelligent, lovely man with a whit sharp enough to cut a brick. Good night mate, your family were very lucky people to have you as their relative. Your hardhat will sit on the shelf as a reminder of what we can all aim for in our careers. God bless big Phil, Dave Smith (Structures Team Leader, Manchester City Council).
