At least seven people were arrested by police investigating reports of a large-scale brawl involving up to 50 youths.

Locals reported weapons being used in the confrontation in Dorsten Square, Bewbush, Crawley, West Sussex, last night.

A number of people needed hospital treatment, but none of their injuries are thought to be serious, police said.

Sussex Police received more than 20 calls about the disorder, which is believed to have erupted between two rival factions.

Six people were detained on suspicion of affray and at least one on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

A police spokesman said: "At 7.42pm on Sunday, Sussex Police were called to reports of a large fight in Crawley involving up to 50 local youths.

"More than 20 separate calls were received from concerned members of the public about the fight in Dorsten Square, Bewbush, some reporting that weapons were being used.

"Police units from Crawley and neighbouring areas were assigned to the incident."
