April family plea over online porn

This Is Lancashire: Murdered April Jones, whose parents are campaigning against online child pornography Murdered April Jones, whose parents are campaigning against online child pornography

The family of murdered schoolgirl April Jones have called on the public to keep backing their campaign to stamp out child pornography on the internet into 2014.

Coral and Paul Jones launched the high-profile campaign in the wake of Mark Bridger, 47, being found guilty of their daughter's abduction and murder last year.

Bridger snatched the five-year-old from outside her home on an estate in Machynlleth, Mid Wales, while she was playing out on October 1 2012.

The paedophile former lifeguard was given a full life sentence when he was jailed at Mold Crown Court, North Wales, last year.

His trial highlighted the full extent that vile online child pornography had played in his warped mind before he abducted and murdered April.

In the aftermath of Bridger's conviction, April's parents appeared on TV and first spoke of their campaign to stop indecent images of children on the internet.

They also revealed that they had discussed it with Sara Payne, whose daughter Sarah was murdered by paedophile Roy Whiting.

The couple have also met Prime Minister David Cameron, who said he shared their concerns about how to stop access to child abuse images online.

Last September they launched an online petition calling for the setting up of an April's Law to eradicate child pornography on the internet.

The wording, framed by Mr Jones, stated: "We, the undersigned, call on the Prime Minister to take action towards stamping out child pornography on the internet, by forcing search engines to filter out any web page that contains child pornography, links to child pornography or that promotes child pornography in any way."

The brief new year message from the family, issued via their Facebook page, illustrates that they remain fully committed to such a law.

"Happy new year to you all," it states.

"Thank you all for ur help. I hope you will all back me & my family to keep fighting in 2014 to fight for Aprils law for the internet. Love to you from the Jones family. ( Coral. Paul. Jazz & Harley.) Xxxxxxxxx

The plea has already attracted support among those who have seen the message.

Friend Cathy Simmonds posted: "Big hugs to you all? Always and forever behind you...Aprils Law 100%?"

Kerrie Linklater, wrote: "All the best for 2014 to you all Paul, Coral, Jazz and Harley.....I hope that sunshine and laughter come a little easier to you next year.....Aprils Law all the way."
