Jennifer Ellison returned to the Dancing on Ice rink after kicking herself on the head with her ice skate and suffering a gash on her scalp during last weekend's show.

The former Brookside actress, who danced to Christina Aguilera's Candyman with her partner Daniel Whiston, said the accident felt like she'd been "hit by a train".

She was praised by the judges for having the courage to get back on to the ice, with judge Louie Spence commending her bravery after she nearly "decapitated" herself.

Speaking after her performance, Ellison, who scored 20 points out of a possible 30, said: "It's been one of the hardest weeks. I just feel like I've done it so I'm made up."

Judge Robin Cousins said that while it was a "little safe", it was "beautifully controlled".

Tonight the ITV show's contestants face a solo skate-off if they find themselves in the bottom two, and will be required to execute 23 separate skills in a performance to save their place in the competition.

Steps, spins and jumps are what the show is all about this week as the remaining celebrities feel the pressure to impress the panel of judges and the voting public.

X Factor flop Chico and his partner Jodeyne Higgins scored 24 and Judge Cousins told the one hit wonder that he was "terrific". Spence said: "I really believe that you can go all the way and win this."

Skier Chemmy Alcott and her partner Sean Rice scored 22, with Alcott gliding around the rink in a champagne coloured outfit. Alcott said she found the routine "challenging", before adding: "I haven't jumped since I smashed my leg up."

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment and his partner Vicky Ogden scored 19.5 with Spence saying he was "Mr Rhythm, Mr Performance and Mr Personality".
