Angelina Jolie has revealed the joy she felt working with her young daughter in her latest movie.

The Salt star plays the title role of Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent in the new Disney film and her daughter Vivienne has a cameo as a young Aurora in the blockbuster.

The superstar was joined by fiance Brad Pitt for a family night out with their children at the glittering world premiere of the film in Los Angeles, where Brad fell victim to a notorious celebrity prankster.

Meanwhile at the premiere, Angelina spoke about having Vivienne in the film, saying: "I love her so any excuse to play with her is certainly fun for me."

She added that taking on the role was a challenge to loosen up. "I had to not take myself so seriously," she joked. "I had to jump in and commit to having horns and magic and to be bold and be brave."

Asked about wearing the distinctive horns for the role, she said: "They transformed me, we tried a few different looks that weren't right so when we got it right we got excited."

Dressed in a dramatic black leather Versace dress, Angelina was joined on the red carpet by co-stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Juno Temple, Leslie Manville and Sharlto Copley.

The 38-year-old star also admitted Brad encouraged Vivienne to get into character, reported People.com.

"The first day was the day she had to catch the butterfly, and she just really didn't feel like doing it. I actually was holding the pole with the ball on the end and bouncing up and down and dancing, trying to make her laugh, and Daddy was on the edge of the cliff she had to jump off, making faces and all her brothers and sisters were egging her on," she told reporters.

"She eventually did it but she was taking her sweet time and not wanting to do it twice, certainly," the actress added.

Angelina also revealed that the pair would rehearse their scenes at home. Zahara, nine, and ten-year-old Pax also had walk-on parts on Maleficent.

"When we did it together, we had a good time, we played together," she said. "I was actually shocked that she was doing so well... She went back and hit her mark! It's frightening."

Maleficent is in UK cinemas now.
