Simon Cowell has apparently asked Sinitta to be godmother to his baby son.

Eighties pop star Sinitta - who used to date the X Factor boss - revealed on Twitter that he and girlfriend Lauren Silverman have chosen her to be godmum to six-week-old Eric.

She tweeted: "Wanted you to be the first (well after my mom and children) to hear about my next Serious New Role... Drum Roll..."

She then shared a photo of herself holding Eric, and wrote: "At Mothers Day lunch with Mom, Magdalena, Zac, @JasonJGale @SimonCowell I was asked to be GodMother to Baby Eric !!!X."

Simon and Sinitta have been close friends for several years although their friendship hit a rough patch last year after the TV mogul announced he was to become a dad and the So Macho singer spoke about having aborted his baby in the 80s.

Sinitta previously admitted she was "utterly stunned" and felt "a sense of betrayal" when she found out Simon had fallen for Lauren and that the pair were expecting a baby together.

She tweeted upon hearing Simon's news: "Something has just happened ... half miracle, half nightmare! #WakeMeUpIWantToGetOff!!"

However, the pair later buried the hatchet and Sinitta said on ITV's Lorraine that their friendship was still strong.

"Simon and I, we're always OK. In fact, like a lot of adversity, sometimes it brings you closer because I think as much as it was difficult, I coped, I did what I thought was right and you know he supported me in it," she said.
