Ray Parker Jr has burst into song as he unveiled his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

The 59-year-old musician, best known for writing and performing the Ghostbusters theme tune, gave a rendition of the song, accompanied by his electric guitar, during his induction into the Category of Recording in Los Angeles.

"I'm going to take my glasses off because I want you to witness the happiest face you've ever seen in your life. Take a picture of this," he joked.

Ray, who has worked with soul stars such as Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, is officially the recipient of the 2,518th star on the Walk of Fame.

"I first want to thank God because this is just too unbelievable," he said on stage. "I'm just a small kid from Detroit and to actually be here today, amongst all these stars, is just really, really too unreal."

He also thanked the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce for "doing this while I'm still alive to come and see it" and joked he would be a regular visitor for his latest honour.

"At two in the morning, if you see some vagrant-looking guy standing out here, please do not arrest me. I will be here quite often," he quipped.

Ray Parker Jr's star is next to those of fellow musical greats Herbie Hancock, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie and The Funk Brothers.

"Anywhere on the Walk of Fame to me is just a blessing beyond belief and is unbelievable, but the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce did something better. They put me next to the Funk Brothers, George Benson, Sam Cooke, Dizzy Gillespie and Herbie Hancock - I worked with most of these guys, so this is too much fun," Ray added.
