Peter Capaldi has been struggling to stay warm while filming Doctor Who in Cardiff.

The Thick Of It star, who was cast as the twelfth Time Lord last year, has been shooting episodes on Mermaid's Quay in Cardiff but was feeling the cold, according to the Daily Mail.

He was seen snuggling up to a furry, polka-dot hot water bottle between takes on a night shoot and shivering with co-star Jenna Coleman, who later filmed scenes wearing a mini dress and heels.

The pair battled the cold while waiting for the Tardis to be assembled, and were later joined on set by former Emmerdale actor Samuel Anderson, who plays new character Danny Pink.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who writer and executive producer Steven Moffat has told BBC News that he thinks a US remake of the show would be a terrible idea.

Steven, who also co-created Sherlock, said: "Sherlock and Doctor Who are both doing rather well but they couldn't be more definitively British. They're obtusely British. They're about as British as it gets."

Asked if overseas networks had approached him to remake Doctor Who, he said: "If anyone were to ask me, I'd say it's an absolutely insane idea. You couldn't have more than one Doctor Who in the world. It would just be dreadful."

Steven declined to remake Sherlock for CBS, who went ahead with Elementary anyway, and said: "We don't own Sherlock Holmes, we don't even own the idea of updating Sherlock Holmes. That's been done before - several times actually. So there's no action to be taken."

He also claimed there were no shows from America that are big hits in Britain: "They're all minor hits. Your mates may talk about them but no-one's watching them. They're getting squashed by the locally-made shows. Always."
