Madonna walked the red carpet at the Grammys with her eight-year-old son David - wearing matching black suits and hats.

David - who Madonna adopted from Malawi in 2006 - told E! news reporter Ryan Seacrest he had chosen the outfits, which included diamond accessories and a gold teeth grill for his musical mother.

Asked by Ryan is Madonna follows his lead he said: "Yes she does." Madonna added: "We're both working the Ralph Lauren angle. He wanted me to wear this."

Madonna - who earlier this month was spotted on crutches after bruising a bone in her foot while dancing in high heels - finished off the 20s gangster look with a walking stick.

Also turning heads on the red carpet were Rita Ora and her boyfriend Calvin Harris, who made a big show of being together at the event. The singer was recently rumoured to have split from the Scottish DJ as she is focusing on her film career, with a role in the new 50 Shades Of Grey movie. But they squashed the rumours by arriving at the event arm-in-arm.

Rita, 23, sparkled in a green metallic Lanvin dress. She was not the only one shimmering, with Taylor Swift dressed in a silver chain mail gown by Gucci.

Beyonce stole the show in a floor-length sheer white lace dress that showed off her famous curves, while preserving her modesty with strategic detailing.

Quirky dresser Katy Perry went for a themed look, in a nude prom dress with sheet music printed on the layered skirt.

And Robin Thicke's wife Paula Patton appeared to have blurred lines on her mind when it came to fashion in a brash zebra print dress.
