X Factor hopeful Lucy Spraggan will not take part in this weekend's live shows due to illness, a spokesman for the talent show has confirmed.

The 21-year-old from Sheffield, who is being mentored by Tulisa Contostavlos, is thought to have a severe case of the flu and has missed rehearsals this week, including the soundcheck on Friday.

A spokesman said: "Lucy isn't well and on advice won't be performing tonight. She automatically goes through to next week's show."

In the 2008 series of The X Factor, contestant Diana Vickers missed a show with illness and was automatically put through to the following week's show.

Spraggan was last spotted in public at the premiere of Skyfall with her fellow contestants.

Controversial singer Rylan Clark took to Twitter to announce that he was also "ill" but the 23-year-old is still expected to perform.

On last week's show, both Kye Sones and Jade Ellis appeared to be suffering with flu symptoms.
