ATHERTON Colls's best start for 10 years in the North West Counties First Division continued with an impressive 3-0 home victory over Squires Gate.

Colls took the lead on 12 minutes when Neil Davies fired into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Craig Hobson doubled the lead 11 minutes later with a header from eight yards out and Anthony Pilkington made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time when he lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.

Colls had chances to extend the lead in the second half but took their foot off the gas and coasted to a victory which leaves them riding high in seventh place.

FC United continued their perfect start to the season with a 10th successive victory.

The breakaway club beat Silsden, who had goalkeeper Martin Foulger sent off, 4-2 in front of a crowd of 3,381 at Gigg Lane to stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points.
