Diouf should be able to leave, says Nolan

KEVIN Nolan believes his bosses should not to stand in the way of El-Hadji Diouf if the Senegal star is adamant about quitting the Reebok.

The Wanderers captain, excited at the prospect of an eighth successive season of Premier League football, says there is no place at the club for anyone who yearns to be elsewhere.

"We've always prided ourselves at Bolton Wanderers in knowing that everyone wants to play for the club," he said. "Everyone's in it together.

"There's no question that Diouffy has shown that while he's been here, but, if the lad wants to go, let him go.

"Obviously we are going to miss a player like Diouffy, but we've got Jussi Jaaskelainen out of contract, Ricardo Gardner and Ivan Campo, all massive players. We need to secure their futures too but none of them have come out and said they want to leave. Diouffy has and that's entirely up to him but we can't just be thinking about El-Hadji Diouf."

It's not so very long ago (2004) that all we could think about was whether Okocha would stay or go and there were massive other players around then too.If we have a Diouf, who proved on Saturday just how critical to our success that he can be, it's inevitable that we will want to keep him if we can...and as yet I've not seen any press which explains why he wants to leave ( family, homesickness, ambition, salary, skill or fitness improvement or disaffection?). Just maybe he's persuadable.

The loyalty point is anyway fine but surely it's more important that we have a thorough overhaul of playing and management staff? And that we ask why so many non-British players are out of form, out of view and out of condition, some literally rather than metaphorically massive.

If however we had the chance to secure one current player this week, my pick, on the evidence of what I have seen recently, would be none of those mentioned but Al Habsi, and he would be closely followed by Guthrie.

Agree, Andy but let's face it from what Dioufy's seen of and had to endure from Megson, would you want to stay?

Don't forget also that Mego's already stated his intention to get rid of all BSA's players so he can bring in his own brand of skillful players like Raziak, Taylor and Cohen.

Remember it isn't just the player's who want out but many of the loyal fans as well. Forty four years for me now and no way will I be going again until this clown's gone.

I reckon if Megson goes then Dioufy might be tempted to stay.
Posted by: bibendum, Rotherham on 9:30am Mon 5 May 08
Too late now BoltonDave I think he's made his mind up and to be fair it's probably right he does as his heart doesn't seem to be in it any more.

Having said that, if we recruited a decent manager and signed a few quality players who know's?
Posted by: il duce, bolton on 11:46am Mon 5 May 08
if a player doesnt want to stay you get rid. end of

but maybe if he saw megson sacked and good signings from a new manager he might change his mind.... he was probably just annoyed by the clubs lack of ambition, all the hard work to get into europe and then we play the reserves and chuck the competition

Posted by: trotters1964, preston on 3:03pm Mon 5 May 08
dioufy is contracted and what i saw of megson is that megson is starting to realise just how important a player of his ability is. dioufy once spoke of allardyce being like a father figure, generally these lads come from a poor background and have fame and fortune thrust onto them which they find difficult to cope with, thats why bsa got the best out of him. megsons brand of man management just drives them away, god knows how we will replace him! (dioufy that is)

Good luck to diouf , he will be remembered as abit of a legend . Remember when we played against marseille he said he wanted to play for them in the future ,so could try a swap deal with cisse (with some cash) . Been a great player for us and as one of the best first touch ,you will see at reebok . He will be sadly missed.

Diouf says he wants to continue his career in England.

Where will he go?

Who will take him?

Dioufy has been at Bolton longer than any previous club he's played for, has been committed and we should thank him for what he's done. Last couple of months we sawa Dioufy who was perhaps 80-90% committed and if that's his outlook then maybe it is time he moved on.

With the UEFA money, Prem money for this and next season, Anelaks's sale, the spare cash we didn't spend and the money we get for Diouf we should be a spending club this close season.

Seriously need to be spending £30m plus though - may be too much for Darkside.

That said, and if BSA had £30m to spend at Bolton, would he have spent it wisely we'll never know??

you can shuff negson up where the sun don't shine he has no idea about running a football club, but still some people want to throw money away send it to me i will go and watch hucknall town in the non league instead of the tripe he has put out, yes we stayed up but please look at the results only one win against a top half team and before you say we beat west ham who are in the top half a bunch of o.a.p's could have beaten them wake up and smell the coffee get rid now and they will come.

Ok Nolan let Diouf go along with Campo & Stelios & you should be able to keep your place next season in a team devoid of any great skill flare or quality. I think the reality of relegation made a few lazy players wake up-only just in time. We must buy quality pace & proven prem players otherwise next year will be worse! LSL tried to play football but the players were not good enough-why can Wigan play attractive footy yet Bolton cannot??

Diouf was a joker, allways entertaining. He made you want to pull out your hair at times. But the man can play soccer. If he wants to leave let him go.Meggers will not miss him, heard he was a nightmear on the traning pitch(L.O.L.)But he made the lads laugh.Thats Diouf's special tallent. He was the heart of the team on his day and a bad tempered grumpy **** if the feeling took him.
Thanx and good luck Diouf.(Go torment some other clubs manager.)You will be missed.

He'll end up at Atletico Madrid.

When ever a player's contract is up for renewal or they are thinking about signing on, their "representatives" sit down with the club's "representatives" to see if a deal can be reached. After a lot of haggling and hot air, a contract is signed by both parties with a fixed term binding the player to that club. The contract is a legally binding document and that works both ways.We often hear about a player looking for security with a contract, what do they think the club are looking for?A means of draining money out of the club?
I am a big fan of Diouf, he is perhaps the one player worth going to watch amongst the current bunch for entertainment value alone.Over the time he has been with us I have come to the conclusion that he is essentially a child and has to be treated as such.Reward them when they do well and encourage them.Chastise them when they misbehave and encourage them to excel again.Diouf's statement that he is off is just another tantrum from the troubled child.Give him the incentive to find a club willing to pay £10 million for him and then sell him.I am not suggesting for one minute that he is worth that but if he feels he is such a big fish let him prove it in the market against that asking price.Pi## or get off the pot El Hadji.
The other problem in all this is once again Nolan's big Scouse gob and it's disconnection with his brain. When he is doing his job as a busy midfielder I have no issue with him. When he opens his gob, on and off the pitch his problems begin. The armband he wears on a Saturday means something, he is a leader and represents Bolton Wanderers' best interests. Those interests are not best served by him saying Diouf should be allowed to leave.Nobby's not a bad player but by the same token he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Heard this morning that Diouffy wants to go to Man City.

He's an absolute legend but I would be gutted if he ended uo there!

Good Luck Diouf wherever you decide to go. It has been a pleasure watching you play in a white shirt over the last 4 years.

Thanks to all the players for finding time out from their celebratory meal to sign autographs for kids yesterday. It was harder work than ever getting my lad to have a shower last night because El-Hadji has autographed his forehead! All the players were a credit to the club.

All the best Diouf - you're a legend. Make sure you go to a better club though, don't take a sideways step!
