ANDY Mangan is struggling to take his place in the Shakers squad to face his old club, Accrington Stanley, this Saturday.

The 20-year-old, who spent two seasons at the Lancashire club, underwent a scan on a potential hernia problem on Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Casper has said the striker is still in contention, though it is not yet known whether the injury will need an operation or whether it can be managed by the club.

Mangan was itching to face the club with which he made over 80 appearances before moving to Gigg Lane in the summer.

But Accrington boss John Coleman insists he will learn nothing new about the former Blackpool trainee.

"Andy Mangan has nothing to prove to me. He is a good player and that is why I signed him," he said.

"It will be a good local derby. We had a great game last year and both sides will be looking to kick on up the table."

Accy will welcome back striker, Ian Craney, who rejoined the club on loan from Swansea City this week after falling out of contention at the League One club.

He was unable to feature for the reserves in midweek because he had not yet received clearance from the Football League, so will not have played first team football for three weeks.
