FC United ensured there was no repeat of last season's cup exit at the hands of Colne as they sealed a comfortable 4-0 third-round victory to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Karl Marginson's side were dumped out of the League Challenge Cup last term after conceding a last-minute winner to their Division One rivals.

But the Rebels avenged that defeat as they showed no signs of rustiness in their first competitive game in three weeks to cruise into the last 16, courtesy of goals from Rob Nugent, Rory Patterson, Stuart Rudd and Dave Brown.

FC will now travel to Silsden, who defeated Atherton LR 4-3 in a thrilling contest in Yorkshire, on Saturday, February 17.

Rovers trailed 2-0 at half-time and their cause was not helped by the loss of goalkeeper Stuart Norman through a hand injury.

Midfielder Russ Kenyon took over between the posts for the second half but there was little he could do when Andy Holden added a third from the penalty spot five minutes after the restart.

David Derefaka's superb 25-yard free-kick reduced the deficit but Silsden restored their three-goal advantage soon after.

However, Ged McAllister pulled one back on 71 minutes and his 17th goal of the season four minutes later to make it 4-3 to set up a grandstand finish.

And it looked like Mark Cox's side had completed an unlikely comeback when Alex Baird's effort seemed destined to level matters, only for the host's keeper to make a wonderful fingertip save.

Atherton Collieries conceded a last-gasp winner as they were dumped out of the competition 3-2 by Congleton Town.

Andy Harvey handed Colls a 14th-minute lead only for Matthew Murray to grab a 20th-minute equaliser.

Less than a minute later the Alder House club were back in front courtesy of Cliffe's penalty, though Town hit back again through Gerald Courtney in an exciting first 28 minutes.

That is how the score stayed until the 89th minute when Andy Hurst struck to break Colls' hearts.

In Division Two, Daisy Hill's mini-renaissance came to a halt after they went down 3-0 at home to a physical Cheadle Town side.

The game was in the balance right until 85 minutes with only Martin's opener six minutes before the break separating the two teams.

But with Tommy Moore's side chasing the game, Martin struck twice more to leave Daisy Hill languishing in the bottom two.
