Noble backing Wigan for play-off glory

BRIAN Noble believes Wigan have the momentum to create history after their stunning comeback at Bradford.

The Warriors staged an incredible fightback at Odsal to set up tonight's Super League elimination semi-final at Hull.

No team has ever reached the Grand Final after finishing the season in sixth, but Noble is confident his side, unbeaten in six, can go all the way to Old Trafford.

"It's not too different from doing it from third except you've got to get on the bus a couple more times and win a couple more games," said Noble, who knows more than most what it takes to reach the final after going there five times with his former club Bradford.

"It's the same amount of games, but you've got to have momentum, belief and the willingness to make that extra play when you're struggling.

"But we've said that all along that someone is going to do it. We've got a terrific hurdle at the weekend in relation to Hull. If we can get over that, then we can look at that, but the reality is we've both got our feet on the trapdoor."

Noble would have been forgiven for thinking Wigan's season was over after they trailed 30-6 early in the second half against the Bulls.

But the Warriors coach, who saw Pat Richards' late drop goal seal an astonishing 31-30 victory, knows their must be no repeat of the first-half display at the KC Stadium if his team are to progress further.

He added: "We certainly dug ourselves out of a big hole at Odsal, but the point is that we shouldn't have been in that hole in the first place.

"I'm not trying to take anything away from the players, because they showed lots of character and commitment to win that game and it was a result that gave us a real energy boost.

"But we have to recognise that the first 50 minutes against Bradford was a real flat spot, and we just can't afford to play like that again against Hull."

Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin, meanwhile, has been cleared to play.
