Leigh Centurions 38 Swinton Lions 4 LEIGH Centurions secured their second Co-operative Championship success of the season in the Leigh Sports Village ‘derby’ on Good Friday.

In front of a healthy crowd of 2,135, the teams who share LSV battled out a competitive first half before Leigh added 20 points without reply in the second period.

Leigh, who were never behind, nudged in front with the first of James Taylor’s two tries in the ninth minute.

Steve McCormack’s promoted Lions got back on level terms with Dale Cunniffe’s 19th-minute try but Leigh had the edge with finishing quality and as a result always looked to be the more dominant force.

Further tries from Craig Briscoe and the first of Steve Maden’s double complemented by two of five conversions from Martyn Ridyard handed Leigh an 18-4 half-time advantage.

Taylor’s second score kept the scoreboard operator active before Matt Gardner and Ryan Brierley got in on the act.

Maden’s second in the 79th minute rounded off a Happy Easter for Paul Rowley’s men.
