Rowley pleased about Millward and turns focus to Halifax tonight

PAUL Rowley is delighted with the news that Ian Millward will become Leigh Centurions’ chief coach next season.

Current first-team coach Paul Rowley will remain with the club.

“For me it’s absolutely fantastic,” he said.

“There were whispers last year about Ian coming in before Neil (Kelly).

“I was excited then and I can’t wait.

“Everything about Ian coming to our club is positive for the future.”

Until then there is the matter of this season and a pressing game against Halifax at The Shay tonight, Friday, kick off 8pm.

Nick Stanton and Dave Alstead both look doubtful for the Centurions’ second trip to Halifax in a month.

That previous occasion saw the hosts win 54-16.

“I thought we had a game plan that could trouble Halifax last time, and for spells of the game we did,” said Rowley “Unfortunately for us, we got undone by a few quality players. That is Halifax. They have quality all over the park.

“But they’ve had a wobble. They’ll want to return to winning ways but we’ll try and combat that.”

The Reserves carried on their recent form with a 60-8 win over Whitehaven, with Dean Dollin outstanding in collecting four of Leigh’s 11 tries.

They play again against Sheffield Eagles at Twist Lane on Saturday at 2.30pm.

The Leigh Independent Supporters Association will hold their next meeting at the Our House public house on Thursday, July 9, with a 7.30pm start.
