HEAD coach Neil Jukes can see his cavalry on the horizon to help lead a much needed victory charge against Super 8s contenders, Wakefield Trinity, at Leigh Sports Village on Saturday (6pm) Centurions have never been the same since relinquishing a 24-12 interval lead lead against Chris Chester’s side at Belle Vue back in March.

That collapse was the overture to a seven game losing league and cup streak including last Friday’s 28-6 defeat at St Helens.

A lengthy injury list has contributed to Leigh’s run of disappointing results and last Saturday’s mid season review wasn’t as glowing as it might have been a month earlier.

However, with key men back in training Jukes believes there is room for optimism.

“We just need that next win to put a bit of belief back in the group,” says the Centurions chief.

“We had a good, mid season review about re-assessing goals and what we need to do to achieve them.

“It was a good, positive meeting. You can see in everyone’s eyes they are committed to the cause.

“There are good signs we just have to get a bit more quality out there.

“We have not been a million miles off in a lot of games.

“But we are doing things that are zapping too much energy out of us and at this level you can’t do it.

“Sometimes when teams haven’t got a right to score they find a way to score. Sometimes we have every reason to score and finish up not scoring.”

Full-back Gregg McNally is available again after suspension while Mitch Brown and Harrison Hansen are expected to pass their respective ‘head’ tests.

Gaz Hock is also in with a chance of returning from a dead leg he picked up in the 37-26 defeat to Catalans Dragons.

Willie Tonga, Antoni Maria and Micky Higham are also been back on the training field.

“We won’t be getting them all back this week but it’s still good to see them out there,” added Jukes.

“Gaz wont be far off. We will give him as much time as possible and the same with Mitch and Harrison.

“It’s key we try and keep everyone fit and don’t lose people just as some are coming back.”

Wakefield ended a run of three defeats with victory over Catalans last Sunday.

And Jukes warns of the threat Trinity face.

“They have not had one game, other than perhaps Leeds away, where they haven’t been in touching distance of winning the games,” he said.

“They are very consistent, they have got some big middles, some experienced halves and they have strike on their edges.

“They have a bit of grit about what they do defensively and they will be looking to come to us for the two points to sit them firmly in the top six.

“A lot of teams will see us for that scalp thinking there is a lack of belief and confidence.

“So, we have got to make sure we are very good because they are too good a footballing side if we are not.”
