LEIGH head coach Neil Jukes admits his squad may lack confidence after six successive league and cup defeats.

But the Centurions boss says there is no lack of unity in his squad ahead of Friday’s trip to St Helens.

Victory at Langtree Park will complete a notable double over Saints and atone for last Saturday’s Ladbrokes Challenge Cup exit against Hull KR.

And while confirming there is no magic wand or magic player available to turn their season round Jukes says: “I am really pleased where the players are in their togetherness.

“There is no divide.

“They are solid together and still in a good place, “They understand the reality we haven’t won many games in the last month or so.

“But I haven’t seen anything that is making me nervous or underlying issues.

“There is always scope to bring people in but we need to be sensible with it,” adds Jukes.

“I don’t think it is a one or two player thing that will solve us at the moment.

“It is something collectively as a group we need to get confidence back and play at a level we have played at before and where we know we can play at again.”

Leigh looked potential Super 8 material after beating Saints 24-16 in front of 9,000 fans at Leigh Sports Village back in February.

But that form has deserted Centurions in the last six weeks and they resume their league campaign third from bottom and could slip to 11th if Huddersfield take a point off Leeds at Headingley tonight. (Thursday) “I am not saying some players at the moment are frightened of expressing themselves but they don’t seem to have their mojo,” admits Jukes.

“It has just highlighted areas where we need to get stronger and find a way to get confidence back into the players individually and let them go out and express themselves.

“It’s been a tough week but it’s been a real fun week as well.

“We have implemented things to make sure people are smiling around the place.

“People could have got carried away by what we did at the start of the season.

“It was brilliant but I was a realist as well.

“We were always going to have good days and tough days though I am not saying I expected us to lose six on the bounce.

“We are a team that has got to work hard and we have got to create opportunities.

“At times we have got to nail the opportunities we get too many times we haven’t done that.”

Gregg McNally comes back into contention after completing a two-match ban while Mitch Brown and Adam Higson were hoping for the all-clear following recent concussion assessments.

But skipper Micky Higham, Gareth Hock, Cory Paterson, Willie Tonga and Antony Maria are unavailable through injury.

Saints have lost two of their three games since parting company with coach Keiron Cunningham including to bottom of the table Widnes last week.

They are desperate for a win to climb the table.
