NEIL Jukes wasn’t rushing to review the video of Leigh’s seven try victory over their former Championship rivals.

Fortunately, this friendly will soon be forgotten when the action begins for real at Castleford Tigers in the Betfred Super League.

Daryl Powell’s Tigers were more impressive in completing a 22-6 win at St Helens with Leigh old boy, Rangi Chase, pulling the strings.

On February 10, the top flight’s newcomers and their upwardly mobile hosts will meet at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle in front of the Sky TV cameras.

And coach Jukes already has worries he could have done without before Leigh’s long awaited return to the top flight.

Having lost Gregg McNally and Adam Higson to injury during the previous win over Wigan, Leigh finished without three of their starting 13 against the Rams: James Clare, Willie Tonga and Ben Reynolds.

“It wasn’t the most clinical of performances but we got what we wanted out of the game,” insisted Jukes hoping all three will be available for the trip to West Yorkshire on February 9.

“In eight days’ time we will be up against a very good Castleford team and we will make sure we are ready.”

As expected, Leigh rotated their squad from the 50-10 stroll over Wigan. Out went hat-trick hero Cory Paterson, French ace Eloi Pelissier, Ben Crooks and Glenn Stewart.

In came skipper Micky Higham, Dayne Weston, David Thompson and Tonga while Reynolds and Josh Drinkwater continued their half back partnership.

Leigh were in front after 12 minutes as ex Cas utility back Clare touched down for Reynolds to goal.

Dewsbury, opening their pre season campaign with a Boxing Day loss to Batley and subsequently going down narrowly to Wakefield, proved tenacious opponents, notably in the first period.

Leigh scored a second try through Tonga, soon to leave the action with a head knock, only for their visitors to rally before half-time with a Lucas Walshaw touch down.

Centurions possessed a greater cutting edge after the interval and Mitch Brown went over two minutes after the re-start with Reynolds tagging on a second conversion.

Ten minutes later 16-4 became 20-4 as substitute Matty Dawson crossed before Atelea Vea took centre stage.

The former Saints favourite added tries after 58 and 63 minutes courtesy of assists from Brown and Weston as Dewsbury, only naming four replacements on their bench, began to struggle.

Hampshire, taking over goal kicking duties from Reynolds, tagged on the extras to Vea’s second score and a late effort from Sam Hopkins to complete the scoring.
