SUPER League new boys Leigh Centurions have confirmed an interest in Warrington Wolves stalwart, Ben Harrison.

But there is no imminent sign of the 28-year-old Cumbrian-born forward ending his career at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Centurions Chairman Derek Beaumont revealed on the club’s official website that talks had taken place with the former England forward.

And coach Neil Jukes explained: “Both parties showed some interest so we followed it up.

“It is something that may evolve, it’s something that may not,” added Jukes. “Besides, Ben is still contracted to Warrington.

“I am not ringing up agents trying to get players in because we have 27 quality players.

“However, given the brutality of Super League we thought one more would have been a good fit for us to make sure we aren’t short during the season.

“Something might happen but it’s all about working with what we have got rather than worrying about who we can bring in.”

Harrison spent the end of last season on loan at Wakefield Trinity, playing twice for the Wildcats after missing nearly 12 months through injury.

Leigh’s players returned to full-time training this week with the exception of international hooker Liam Hood, given time off after his heroics with Scotland.

The former Leeds, Swinton and Salford man was outstanding as the Bravehearts defied the odds to avoid a pointless debut in the Four Nations with an 18-all draw against New Zealand in Workington.

“Sometimes you have six or seven players having operations at the end of the year.” said Jukes.

“But we have managed to get a lot of people on the field doing their structures.

“Eloi Pelissier has had operation on his thumb but he is doing a lot of stuff on the field and a lot of conditioning. Cory Paterson been cleared to get through all his skills now so we have got a lot of numbers on the field.

“It is an interesting part of the season given the number of new faces at the club, not just with the players but the backroom staff as well.

“It’s been great watching new partnerships being formed.

“And while it’s only early the signs have been good.”

While Leigh are playing a waiting game with Harrison, Beaumont confirmed former St George Illawarra — where he worked under Wayne Bennett — and Sydney Roosters strength and conditioning coach, Scott Campbell is moving from the NRL to join the Centurions.
