LEIGH boss Neil Jukes hopes home comforts can lead to away day success against London Broncos in Sunday’s table topping Kingstone Press Championship clash at Ealing.

The Centurions have decided against an overnight stop and will make the 200 miles journey to the Trailfinders Sports Ground on Sunday morning.

Victory for the leaders will secure a top two finish to guarantee four home games in the Middle 8’s plus leave Leigh five points clear of Broncos in the race for the League Leaders’ Shield.

“We have assessed previous experiences stopping over and we don’t see the value of it,” said Jukes looking forward to welcoming back skipper, Micky Higham, and Gareth Hock from suspension

“Some of our worst performances this season and last have come on the back of stopping over.

“There is some value to it. But you can sleep in a different bed, with a soft mattress and waking up with a stiff back.

“Then you are sat around all morning and there is only so much coffee you can drink.

“It is not something we are forcing upon the boys; it is something they are happy to do. We have spoken about it being part of the challenge.”

Broncos are unbeaten at home this season and have won their last five games scoring 242 points in the process.

“They are a difficult team,” agrees Jukes. “They are an athletic team, they are fit and they are well drilled.

“They do the simple things really well and when teams do that and do the little things right, week in, week out, on the back of good attitude with lots of energy they become a tough nut to crack.

“That’s why they have not lost at home and we will face a strong London side.

“We will be playing on a different pitch so there are lot of areas for us to get our heads round. Fortunately, we have got a squad to pick from and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Jukes is delighted to welcome back his H-men, Higham and Hock, back into the fold.

“There is only Jamie Acton in the ‘naughty boy’ club now,” he laughed.

“The other two are probably glad to be playing because they have been flogged up and down in training for the last three weeks.

“One of Gaz’s best games for us was his last one against Bradford so I am looking at him continuing that form.”

It’s a reunion for Leigh’s ex Bronco, Josh Drinkwater, the Londoners’ leading points scorer in their 2014 relegation season. On loan to the end of the season, the 24-year-old half back has notched five tries in as many games for Centurions.

“Josh has been great.

“He has got better game by game and his kicking game against Workington last weekend was outstanding when he also contributed two tries and a couple of assists,” said Jukes.
