ATHERTON will meet Elton in the Cross Cup Final.

They defeated their closest league rivals Flixton in the semi finals, defending their total of 176 for 9 and bowling out their opponents for 162 with nine balls to spare.

After a slow start, captain Paul Walsh top scored for the home team with 53 and a quickfire 23 from Ian Nuttall complemented a 30-run innings from Dale Tyrer to boost Atherton to a competitive total.

James Damjanovski (3-20) and Jamar Griffith (3-45) held the strong Flixton batting line-up in check.

The second XI also have a big date ahead having progressed to the Isherwood Cup Final against Darcy Lever next month.

Meanwhile, Atherton bowed out of the Wigan Cricket Development Group 2020 competition on Friday by a narrow margin.

Highfield Hawks posted 119 in their 20 overs and Atherton chased to within four runs during their innings.

On Saturday Atherton faced fourth placed Edgworth at Higham Park and overseas players Damjanovski (6-28) and Griffith (4-28) restricted the visitors to 60 all out, with Liam Watkinson top scoring with 28.

Damjanovski crowned a fine all round performance scoring 40 not out as ACC knocked off the runs without losing a wicket.
