EPL ICE HOCKEY: With a weekend haul of two goals and eight assists, Manchester Phoenix head coach Tony Hand has once again hit and passed the 100-point mark for a season.

On 92 points prior to Saturday's 10-2 demolition of the Romford Raiders and Sunday's’ 6-4 win over the Peterborough Phantoms, the peerless Hand has now taken his total to 22 goals and 80 assists for 102 points… with seven games still to play before the post-season playoffs.

Last season the Scot, the first British player ever drafted by an NHL team, passed four thousand career points and he's still going strong.

With his trademark modesty, Hand said: "“I didn'’t know I'’d reached a hundred points till about an hour after the game when Andy (Costigan, Phoenix General Manager) rang me to congratulate me. Naturally, I'’m delighted and proud to have scored that many points, but my focus is on the team getting the wins and if we could win every game without me adding another point to my personal figures, I'’d happily take that.

Phoenix GM Andy Costigan added: "“Tony has come in for a bit of stick recently from some quarters as results went against the team, with some suggesting he should even stop playing. But with over a hundred points, he'’s still pretty much irreplaceable.

"The time will inevitably come for Tony to stop playing, but in my opinion that time isn’t even close. I'’m just thankful he'’s in a Phoenix uniform and that it'’s our fans who have the privilege to watch him week in, week out."”
