EPL: Bison sign top British forward

Basingstoke Bison have announced the signing of top British centreman Tom Long.

The newest member of the Herd joins from the Wightlink Raiders, where he was their Player of the Year last season.

Last term the 24-year-old forward posted impressive stats of 57 points from 54 games included 33 assists the most by any British player on the Isle of Wight team.

The Colchester-born player started his career in Chelmsford, before having spells at Haringey, Slough and Romford.

He returned to Chelmsford in 2006 where he was club captain and last season was an assistant at Wightlink in his first year on the island.

Bison player/coach Steve Moria believes he will add another dimension to the team and said: "He is a very good hockey player and is a little bit more defensive than some of our other forwards. Last season Tom was part of one of the top lines in this league and gives 100 per cent every shift."

Talking from his home in Essex, Long said: "I am really looking forward to coming to Basingstoke and with this team we have a lot of depth in every department. I think we will be one of the top teams in the league and that is what I want to be a part of.

Talking about his style of play, Long said: "I am fearless player and I like to lead by example. I punch above my weight and I am not afraid to get struck into the corners.

"I like to turn a game with a hit, an assist or a goal. I will now be working hard all summer to be ready when the first puck drops."
