Blackburn Hawks escape ice hockey drop

BLACKBURN Hawks have escaped relegation after being reinstated to the English National Ice Hockey League North Division One.

Hawks were relegated in April after a thrilling play-off match against Manchester Phoenix, who were promoted to Division One in their place.

But Billingham Bombers have now withdrawn from the league, leaving Division One with only seven teams.

Division Two, who recently accepted an application to join from Sutton Sting, had nine teams so the league opted to reinstate Hawks at a league meeting on Saturday.

The club’s junior side, Lancashire Raptors, will remain in Division Two.
