A SPECIAL operation to root out trouble-making football supporters before tomorrow's Manchester derby has been organised by police.
Fans intent on causing trouble are being warned to stay away from the Manchester United versus Manchester City clash at Old Trafford, which kicks off at 1.30pm on Sunday.
Plain clothes and uniform police officers will be in and around the stadium and there will also be extra city-centre patrols.
Anyone caught with drink in the alcohol exclusion zone, stretching from the city centre to the stadium, will have it confiscated and drunk supporters will not be allowed into the stadium.
Chief Supt Janette McCormick, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "My officers will take robust action against troublemakers so this minority of people do not spoil the day for the true supporters."
