BLACKBURN Rovers have given Manchester City permission to speak to Mark Hughes about the vacant manager's post at Eastlands, subject to the Blues meeting certain conditions.

City made a formal approach for Hughes following the sacking of Sven Goran Eriksson, and Rovers have reluctantly sanctioned talks after Hughes made it clear to the board he wanted to hear what the Blues had to offer.

However those talks will only be allowed to take place provided City agree in advance to meet Rovers' compensation demands.

A statement from Rovers said: "Blackburn Rovers can confirm that they have received an approach from Manchester City for permission to talk to Mark Hughes with regard to him becoming their manager.

"Mark has made it clear to the Board he would like the opportunity to talk to Manchester City.

"In view of this the Board have decided reluctantly to give permission, subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed with Manchester City in advance.

"The club will not be making any further comment at this stage."
