Police are appealing for information after a gang of youths broke into Manchester City Football Club's stadium.

A group of up to six youths forced their way into the Eastlands stadium on Rowsley Street at 9.50pm on Monday by prising apart the magnetic doors on one of the gates.

Once inside, the gang went into one of the public bars in the stadium and stole a number of bottles of spirits.

They were then disturbed walking around the upper level of the stadium by the club's security staff who immediately contacted police. The gang were chased out of the stadium and split up into two groups - one seen heading towards a nearby Asda and the other towards Ashton New Road.

A 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy were later arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in police custody for questioning.

Police are now appealing to anyone who saw the group running away from the stadium, or anyone who has information about the incident, to come forward.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Grey Mare Lane Police Station on 0161 856 3502 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
