Newcastle owner rules out Moyes

First published in Sport

EVERTON chairman Bill Kenwright has revealed that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has personally assured him that he will not attempt to poach David Moyes from Goodison Park.

Rumours in Liverpool this morning suggested that Moyes was on the verge of a move to St James' Park, but Kenwright insists nothing could be further from the truth.

The Everton chairman revealed he had spoken to Ashley earlier today and received assurances that Newcastle were not chasing Moyes.

Kenwright said: "Mike came on the phone and I said, 'Listen, do you know there's rumours sweeping round Newcastle and Liverpool that you are after David?'

"He said, 'Even if David was the greatest manager in the world - and I know you think he is - there's no way on God's Earth we would ever, ever do that kind of thing to Everton.' "There is no truth in it whatsoever."
