Ewood fears as manager search goes on

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
BOLTON Wanderers look ready to steal a march on Blackburn Rovers in the race to appoint a new boss – as Ewood Park staff grow increasingly frustrated at being left in limbo.
The Lancashire Telegraph understand Rovers’ north west rivals are considering an approach for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already expressed his interest in the Ewood Park role, having sacked Owen Coyle just three days ago.
Mick McCarthy is also in Bolton’s sights as Rovers’ owners continue to procrastinate over their next move.
Rovers’ managerial search has been ongoing for almost two weeks now, after the resignation of Steve Kean, but it is understood the club are a long way from finding a replacement.
A host of big names are believed to be interested in the Ewood Park hot seat, including the likes of Javier Clemente, Solskjaer and Bernd Schuster.
Global advisor Shebby Singh met with managing director Derek Shaw and operations director Paul Agnew yesterday, with a list of potential names understood to have finally been drawn up.
Singh declined to comment on who was on the list. He said: “We are all very pleased with the calibre of candidates and there are a number of strong avenues that we wish to explore. However, we must appeal for patience and calm among supporters while the right decision is reached.
“Derek, Paul and I, in close liaison with the owners, are working hard to make sure we get the right man and while we don’t want it to take any longer than is necessary, we won’t be rushed. This is a big, big decision.”
Caretaker-boss Eric Black remains in temporary charge but he and his coaching staff are understood to be growing increasingly frustrated at a lack of clarity about their role in the club’s future.
They are fully committed to looking after things in the interim, with Black having yet to put himself forward for the role, but are growing concerned at the lack of direction being shown.
Some of Rovers’ squad are also understood to be concerned at the uncertainty surrounding the club, with all looking for answers from owners Venky’s.
Black & co are also seeking clarification on whether Singh had ruled him out of the managerial race to supporters as reported, although the Lancashire Telegraph understand he is still in the frame.
An Ewood insider, said: “Everyone is getting fed up. From the coaching staff to those in the offices at Ewood Park, to the players. It seems as though no one knows what is happening.
“People just want to know what the future has in store. There seems to be so much dithering that no one has actually got hold of this club.”
Meanwhile, first team coach Colin Hendry believes Black is an ideal candidate for the vacant position.
He said: “When you are looking at candidates for this position I don’t think you need to look any further than Eric Black. He’s got all the boxes ticked, that’s for sure.”

Even if they havent appointed a new manager by now, you'd think they'd have been able to make a phone call to Mick MaC, Shearer or speak to Molde to sound them out about speaking to their manager etc etc to get the ball rolling - but no, of course not - that would be far too simple and obvious.
After 2 weeks they've actually done the square root of buggar all.
Venkys - please, please , please put the club up for sale - it is NEVER going to work and all the fans hate you and AND ALWAYS WILL DO !!!

Shebby draws out more time so that the impact of the Black appointment is seen as "well we needed to get someone in" and the LET will be posting articles like "GET BEHIND BLACK" a day or so after his appointment.
If Black is hired, I'm done with BRFC for the forseeable future.
Also, Hendry - please zip it !!
Colin Hendry is a disgrace - like Agnew, he claims to love the club yet continually puts his own well-being before that of the club.
eg - "Its only a minority of fans against SK" - May 2012
" Eric Black is the best man for the job and ticks all the boxes" 11 Oct 2012
Colin - its time to go and please don't EVER return to Ewood - we don't need fans like you or Agnew.

Amazing comments from Hendry re Black ticking all the right boxes....he did,nt have Kean sat beside him (not appearing to be saying a word) with his hand up Hendry,s backside by any change !!!!

They have never once put fan's wishes into their equation, nor for that matter football sense.
The problem is and will be the owners, whoever they are, with Venks acting as owners and having more pressing business in Pune than to sort out the flailing club.
Maybe they are delaying because they have to throw a wedge to JA for his wizardary advice.
At worst, they couldn't give a hoot and are fogging to make Black or singh look like positives.
What ever happens, we can look back and see the deliberate mistakes and non co operation with the fans since day 1.
They have to go.

Mrs Desai - this is not an industrial business. Taking industrial time to make a decision will do significant damage to this business.
The facts have been known for months, stop dithering, make a decision and go for it.
.....and please learn that you will never be able to run this company either at arms length or in the same way you run your chicken business. This is the "here and now" football business.
Get somebody in who knows that and give them the authority to make timely decisions.
By the way - if you take a wrong decision (and I would suggest anything including Black/Hendry would be poorly received by the fans) you just have to live (or die) with the results.

Nor do I like Venkys - but I will eat my hat if Black gets the job. I cannot believe that Shebby doesn't realise that.
All that said, contraversial I know, but it isn't unheard of a club taking this length of time to make an appointment.
I would far rather they take their time. That time IS now running out though and they MUST make the right decision.
We all get a sense of what's going on, but who REALLY knows what's happening behind the scenes. Is it procrastination, is it the need to sort out funds for a BIG name - or to negotiate and provide reassurances to the incoming man.
It may frustrate us all - but one thing's for sure - I doubt very much we will be able to influence the outcome from our keyboards. Let's just hope they make a half decent decision for once!

The timing of Owens sacking was so they could get OGS before we did.
Alex Ferguson has said on many occasions that OGS would be a top manager and so far he has proved to be.

Shebby may well be in negotiations right now with Sherwood along the lines of, "Will you keep Eric and Colin on? Will you take a low wage as we are putting you on the first rung of management? You can keep your pundit job (and get me one too while you're at it) and only travel to Rovers when you feel like it. I'll act as your proxy when you're away. Hey, you might even be able to keep your Spurs job if you want to."
Sherwood might just fit into the Ewood workflow pattern if they can arrange a cheap deal with promise of big bonus for promotion. Not my choice because he has no experience and may well be more divisive than able to unite the squad. But he can talk the talk and that seems to matter most to Venky's going of previous decisions.

They have given folks interested the time to apply.
Are studying the key attributes required and who would best fit the post.
Keeping it close to their chest is also good for if Someone was offered the job and realised they were the third fourth choice because things had leaked out how do you think they would feel.
Only slip up to date is the Sherwood issue I just wish they would have not got involved until they had done the shortlisting exercise.
Whoever is ultimately asked must feel as if they were the number 1 choice not second third best for this permeates the whole squad / club and undermines the persons credibility from day 1 of walking into the club.
Whoever gets the job I would like to see Faz sorting out the defence, now there is someone who knows what he is doing and is a TRUE Blackburn legend.

HENDRY`S comments about Eric Black "We have the best man for the job right here , he ticks all the right boxes" .IIs it not CLEAR and obvious to everyone HENDRY is simply patronising Black for Hendry`s own personal gain and benefit.
Steve KEAN employed HENDRY as taxi driver /defensive coach Kean needed someone to drive him around as we all know Kean is a convicted drunk driver..
HENDRY thinks he is now on the gravy train and he does not want to get off.
There is an old saying,
"BETTER TO HAVE A ENEMY WHO SLAPS YOU IN THE FACE THAN A FRIEND WHO STABS YOU IN THE BACK "
We have all read about the way HENDRY treats his friends/pensioner neighbours.
These two should have gone when their big pal the odious one STEVE KEAN left , not quite all the bad odour is gone from rovers.
You may well be right about Sherwood being old buddies with Hendry and possibly being under pressure to keep Hendry maybe not Black so much, but I think and hope Tim Sherwood is a a honourable man would want to do the right thing for all of us at Rovers, which means both Black and the mouthpiece Hendry gone.
Whats the point of it all if they cannot give us a clean slate.

I hope Tim Sherwood is honourable too. I'm just wondering what is going on behind the scenes when 2 weeks later, there's still no movement. I can't believe Venkys are just so indecisive and slow, I think there's more to it than that. So of course I'm fearing the worse. What is motivating Venkys - do it right this time, or continue asset-stripping with some kind of cover-up or cheap option to disguise it?
Fingers crossed that it will all come good and the speck of light at the end of the tunnel has got much brighter this time next week!

DON'T PANIC! This article has invited hysterical responses and boy we've got them. If OGS goes to Bolton he might do well but equally he might not be up to the job. When we got Ince, when we had good football men in charge, did enough analysis go into that decision? At the time I thought it was a good choice but I didn't know if he was good tactician or not or whether he was able to improve players' fitness or pro-zone stats. I based my view on the fact that he was an ex-top player getting results in the lower leagues. He obviously interviewed well too. Clearly that's not enough.
I don't trust the current owners to do the right analysis but surely rushing them and creating a sense of panic isn't going to help.

These owners are clueless..... just the fact that we have this clown Shabby Sh!t for brains sorting out the mess means they are even less likely to get it right.
After all we all know who is bringing in all these 'talented foreign players' onto the books.... it certainly wasnt the manager.
Lets be honest.... the only managers who have a chance of getting the job will be linked in some way to their special agent
