COMMENT: Rovers MUST get this decision right

THE first question any manager will ask Venky’s with regards the Ewood Park hot seat is surely ‘will I be allowed to manage things my way?’.

Rumours of interference on signings and team selection over the past couple of years will hardly fill any potential applicants with confidence.

They shouldn’t either. Shebby Singh – who it appears has been given the ultimate responsibility of finding a new boss for the owners – has got a massive decision to make in the next couple of weeks.

I don’t think it is over-exaggerating by saying it is probably the biggest decision facing the club since the Jack Walker era began, maybe even before that.

Once Singh has made that though, it is imperative he allows the chosen one to be his own man, with regards all the on-field aspects. Anything else simply won’t work.

That is why it is so important they know exactly who they are employing. There is no point in appointing a manager who conflicts with Venky’s own ideas as it will only end in disaster.

There is also no point in appointing a manager who is going to get upset by Singh’s own blunt statements as, by his own admission, he will continue to be the club’s biggest critic if things are going wrong.

A managerial shortlist will be finalised today and we can only hope the right people have been spoken to and the right people listened to.

I genuinely believe the club has been landed in the mess it is in because the owners listened to some shocking advice and knew no better other than to believe it.

They bought the club without any knowledge of football so it stands to reason they would have no clue about what decisions to make to help Rovers move forward.

The advice they received that Sam Allardyce should get the boot was mad, the advice to appoint Steve Kean was even madder.

The likes of John Williams tried to tell them that at the time but were simply ignored into submission. Now, they have to have learned from their mistakes. Listen to the wrong advice again and we may as well all give up.

At the end of the day though, the final decision is down to them and them alone.

The past two years has been Venky’s fault because THEY made the wrong decision.

Now is the time to get it right. Now is the time to talk to ‘football people’. The likes of Derek Shaw and Paul Agnew, who have worked in the English game for years, need to have their input and need to be doing all they can – with Singh – to steer the inexperienced owners in the right direction.

But don’t be surprised to see them take their time over this because the future of the club depends on them getting it right. A scary sentence if you consider their past mistakes.

MUST get it right is a big ask. Jack got it wrong 3 times.

There seems to be enough experienced candidates interested in the job, quite a few should do a good job. He wouldn't be my choice, but I have a feeling Shearer will get the job, he's the only one to make it known publicly that he wants the job.

He's our best ever player and a legend, but I have doubts he will make our best ever manager.

After spending 8 million on Rhodes, I can't see Venky's wanting to part with too much more.
At the start of the season, nearly everyone said that we should walk this league
Whoever we had as manager. So maybe Venky's are thinking the same.
Judan Ali's name is cropping up quite a bit, and i can see them going for this option,
with Shebby "grooming" him.

It's not just about the the new manager but also the backroom staff that comes with him that is important. Kean has gone but he has left behind
some debris so the Ist team coaching staff going forward will be just as vital.

The advice that the Venky's are listening to comes from their own appointee Shebby Singh. He is nothing more than a loquacious, erractic TV critic with no demonstrable knowledge of how to run a football club. The appointment of a manager is just a side show. Whoever is appointed their primary difficulty will not be in dealing with players and tactics but managing the owners who so far have shown no sign of being willing to seek and accept good advice. The club's difficulties will, unfortunately, continue beyond the appointment of the next manager.

HENDRY BEING INTERVIEWED ON TALKSPORT THIS MORNING,

Alan Brazil to Hendry --"Colin who do you think is best person to be manager at Rovers now ?"

Hendry replies --"The man in the job right now , he TICKS all the boxes , he is the best man".

Alan Brazil -- The last 3 results have not been very good.

Hendry replies -- Me and Eric did everything we possibly could to get a result against WOLVES but it did not work.

So they did everything they could ,Black and Hendry to get a result against Wolves but it did not work , sounds to me that is basically the same thing as saying you cannot do the JOB.
Also the words Hendry used this morning "Black ticks all the boxes" are exactly the same words he used when talking about Steve Kean just before he got his job as defensive coach at Rovers he said about Kean "Steven ticks all the boxes and the majority of Rovers fans are fully supportive of him" then lo and behold A FEW WEEKS LATER HENDRY GETS APPOINTED AS DEFENSIVE COACH .

I SUPPOSE HENDRY WITH HIS BACKGROUND WOULD SAY "THE TEA LADY TICKS ALL THE RIGHT BOXES TO BE MANAGER AT ROVERS" IF IT MEANT HIM KEEPING HIS JOB.

Shebby Singh should not be allowed to pick his nose, let alone be anywhere near this pivotal decision! As for Shaw, his track record at Preston fills me with yet another feeling of doom. Don't even get me started on Venky's!

This total shower in charge of OUR club have got EVERYTHING wrong from day one. Does anyone have any faith in them getting this decision right?

Anyone care to bet that the next manager will be the cheap option, and/or a client of a certain agent?

I fear for OUR club - we seem to be on a downward spiral with no escape whilst these incompetents have anything to do with BRFC.

The best applicants are the hungry for success younger guys with a track record like Hill.Hollowar,Ole Gunnar etc etc its a waste of time looking at Keane Souness and McCarthy as they are not hungry manager's and are jaded in my opinion.I am sure Glen Hoddle is the right guy as he has been away and has an appetite to get back into football management again.

I am not yet concerned about Shebby. As far as I can see all he has done so far is contrived to have Kean removed, for which he deserves a medal, and wound up a few of the midfield who thought they had a job for life.

The test will be which manager he appoints, and most fans cannot even agree on that - Shearer, yes or no?

Christ on a bike - if we're relying on Shebby Singh, Shaw and Paul "worst Rovers fan in our 137 year history" Agnew then we are DEFINATELY screwed, good and proper.

Well if you actually attended BRAG meetings - like I would recomend to any Rovers fans who actually wanted to know what was going on within their own club - then you would know that BRAG have documented proof that both SK and PA attended a meeting with "Venky advisor" (haha) JA approx 3 months before the actual purchase.

Infact, the meeting is well documented so it would be interesting if Andy Cryer actually asked Paul Agnew WHY both he (who was simply "BRFC press officer" and Steve Kean (3rd coach to the 1st team) at that time, WHY they flew to India with JA (who did have a reason for attending the meeting as he was THE nominated "advisor" to Venkys) - but WHY were Kean and Agnew as in India for the meeting ????

Spot on. Hendry knows he's gone if Black doesn't get the job, which begs the question does Hendry actually care about who the best choice of manager would be at Rovers, or is he more concerned about his own pocket? I think we all know the answer to that. Black ticks none of the boxes. He might be a decent coach but that's where it ends. Rovers were an absolute shambles against Wolves and proved without doubt that neither Black or Hendry are worthy of being manager and coach.

Hoddle was chatting with Brazil aswell this morning and he would be without doubt a top draw manager at Rovers. I won't hold my breath. Times ticking by and I dread to think what those sh1t bags have up their sleeves.

Shebby is not appointing the Manger - the (absent) owners are. Fans can speculate but we do not have a say on anything at the Club. The only choice we have is whether to buy / use season tickets, pay money at the turnstile, in the shop, bars, food stalls, corporate hospitality, etc. You can vote with your feet and your wallet but will Venky's take any notice?; Mrs. D. never comes to games and the rest leave ten minutes before the end or even at half-time.

My money is on the Indian 'Coach' getting the job with Shebby being promoted to Director of Football - Mrs. D. keeping it in the family, so to speak. Shebby will do what he is told, along with Shaw and the invisible man, Agnew.

PS: It's Thursday; have they drawn up their short-list yet?

Throughout this period, The relegation of our side, the consequence of Kean resigning, the temporary appointment of Black the Jack, the ensuing appointment of a new manager, we have yet to hear anything from our inept owners,The Venkys A statement like we are sorry we got it so wrong, sorry we made mistakes. We only hear snippets and excuse through the voice of a over-hyped Indian football critic / ex amateur footballer. who in my opinion knows even less than Kean about the English football game. I think that about sums up the whole pathetic circus that now envelops BRFC. Don't get this appointment right you clowns and BRFC will come tumbling down, big style. Look around you, heed some of the advice and opinions of people with knowledge of our game. By the way well spoken Tony Parkes.

You should all remember that Venky's own the club and are ultimately responsible for everything that has taken place over the last 2 years. Unless they have a complete change of attitude and decide to run the club in order that the club prospers and not themselves we are doomed to more of the same. I fear the worst but hope i'm wide of the mark!

Christ on a bike - if we're relying on Shebby Singh, Shaw and Paul "worst Rovers fan in our 137 year history" Agnew then we are DEFINATELY screwed, good and proper.

Venkys please put the club up for sale NOW - yes it might take a few years to sell but the club simply cannot survive much longer under your disasterous tennure.
Proof?

Isn't it strange that the third in line team coach was at the meeting, but the manager ( Allardyce ) wasn't, and probably knew nothing about it.
Well I'm sure it was just a conicidence - just like it was COINCIDENCE that a man at that original meeting in India (Steve Kean) then became Rovers manager.

And I'm sure it was just a COINCIDENCE that that man (Steve Kean) had Jerome Anderson (a man also at that meeting in India) as his agent.

I'm sure it was also just a COINCIDENCE that the 3 assistant managers, who all served under SK were all Jerome Anderson clients (Jensen, Clement and Black).

I also think its just COINCIDENCE that (at least) 4 if not all 6 of the Portugese signings this summer were made through a Portugese agent with links to Jerome Andersons Portugese office - although, personally, I think thats just a COINCIDENCE !

And its funny - the more you delve into things that have happened at BRFC over the last 2 years the more you keep triping over this one word - COINCIDENCE - how very bizarre !!

Still, I'm sure thats just COINCIDENTAL.
Can't wait for the results of BRAG findings to to be investigated fully and brought out in the open, but can't understand why it's taking so long.
I fully believe something dodgy has been going on this last two years, hence the silence of Venkeys' ( still ongoing ) and the ' disappearance' of Anderson.
Well they are complex investigations and I have heard from 2 different people involved in "the dossier" and subsequent meetings that once they start following a lead, then 2 or 3 other things crop up which need looking into and so on and so forth so its a very complex and time-consuming thing.

However, that said BRAG did finish each meeting (PL, FA and sports minister) with the words "We are happy to give you time to investigate whats in this document and we know it will take some time but we will NOT accept a cover up. If you don't expose these people in time then we will, by making the file available to the general media".

I will also say that the Sports minister has also acted upon the document and that the govt (and I can't stand tories) won't allow any corruption in sport to be swept under the carpet.

That said - I know BRAG have acted (and still act) in a proper manner, allowing the authorities time to investigate but time is running out and I personally feel if nothing has progressed by the end of this year then BRAG should consider exposing their evidance in January through the English media.

HAS BLACK GOT A TEAM PROMOTION --- NO TICK
HAS BLACK DID WELL AT ROVERS SINCE BEING MANAG.---NO TICK
IS BLACK GOOD WITH THE MEDIA /FANS --- NO TICK

Owen Coyle ticks more boxes that they two , Coyle a non drinker .a honest man /not a natural liar ,for some it seems to come easy, Coyle who at least left his previous club with some dignity ,not like the Colin Hendry`s drinking pal and best mate , Steve Kean who after getting us relegated he is now in the process of suing Rovers.

Anyone care to bet that the next manager will be the cheap option, and/or a client of a certain agent? I fear for OUR club - we seem to be on a downward spiral with no escape whilst these incompetents have anything to do with BRFC. SHYSTERS GET OUT OF OUR CLUB
Holloway will get the job watch this space.

You are upside down. They got out sold up and are spending the money right now.

They have no hold on what the new owners do with a club that used to belong to them. They were told like everybody else that the new owners were very wealthy and wanted the best for the club, why should they not believe this?

You are just fogging the issue of how nasty these owners are. The real issue lies at the FA and Premier league who snuggled up to these liars and allowed them to be fit and proper in their eyes.

Even now after two years of suspicion they can't bring themselves to attend games, they couldn't give a hoot about the club, as long as their money is recovered, and it probably is.

Venkys are now in a very enviable position. They can look at the Asian betting market for the new manager, find somebody at say 20/1, and put £5m on him,and then give him the job. They can pocket the money and sell the club off in about 6 months. Might be the best answer all round. If they choose a rank outsider as the new manager then there is every chance of the plan being put into action. They don't care two tosses about the fans,as they have previously demonstrated. IMHO.

That said - I know BRAG have acted (and still act) in a proper manner, allowing the authorities time to investigate but time is running out and I personally feel if nothing has progressed by the end of this year then BRAG should consider exposing their evidance in January through the English media.
why dont you like the tories there a great party i here boris has put his hat in the ring for the job as brfc manager

Some great posts tonight.

I hope BRAG is wrong but fear they could be right. Even so I want to concentrate on the positives, not on circumstantial evidence.

We have bought a good young player in Jordan Rhodes. (for a lot of money) - FACT
By hook or by crook we have also seen the end of kean. - FACT

Now whilst I shudder at the appointments of Agnew, Shaw, & Singh, at least there is someone actually administering at last.

I can't help but be excited in anticipation of who our next manager will be and I am eager to see what (whoever it is) does with this undoubtledy talented group.

I've witnessed a lot of Rovers managers and whoever it is, a new chapter is beginning for our club.

If I owned the club it would be Benitez. It won't be him, so whoever it is won't be my choice, but hey ho I don't own the club.

IMHO.
I think the bookies might have something to say about that.

Venky are offering £2 million for the new manager ,thats more than many top European Clubs likes of AC Milan,Inter Milan,Juventus,Borus
ia Dortmond and some Premiership Clubs whom pays less than £2 million..So Venky must be serious of getting BRFC back in the Premiership where they belong. So many are linked with BRFC vacant managers post.Redknapp,Benite
z,Roy Keane,Shearer,Sherwo
od and many more. Why waste a lot of money why not hire people like Grayson,Pearson,Hill who have experience in Championsip league.

I'm hearing Trappatoni is a strong contender - but there again Sven was going to join us in '96 as a proven European manager......and that didnt happen, just like Zidane didn't come - so even in JW's day we had promises that didnt turn in to reality.

It seems like Venkys still dont know what they are doing, Keans out, now it time to get rid of the chicken farmers and get someone in who knows how to run this club. All talk, little, punitive action. Venkys dont have the capacity to run a football club. During the darkest days of our club, they were a no show at the ground as we all know. We are slipping away in the league, yet another promise of return to the premiership seems to be dwindling away. God save our club, our reputation, and slipping further away down the league.

Sounds like we will have a new manager before Monday. The best price you can get on Sherwood tonight is 2-5 on...makes him a 'racing certainty' for the job. All hail the Tim! Timmy Sherwood's Blue and White Army!

Now we can concentrate on the football again and getting back to the prem!

IF Henry did make those comments on Sky...then he is thinking ONLY OF HIMSELF....and if the Venky,s again are sucked in by Anderson,s & Hendry,s then it is going to be a step backward.

Venky,s MUST allow a completed sweep-out of the old coaching staff related in any way to the Kean era....and a new team/Manager in, with your full support / backing....no interference....ALL VERY SIMPLE IF YOU ARE SERIOUS FOR SUCCESS !!!

Although I would prefer OGS as my first choice, I am quite prepared to give Tim Sherwood a go if we are not going for an experienced man. I think Tim would be the best choice of the rest of the candidates. He knows the Rovers, he knows the fans, he would be able to attract "names" to the club. Despite the Venky's.
But we must geet in quick before Bolton steal a march on us. As for Burnley their best bet is to go for a well known manager, infamous even. May I suggets a man who can easily get them to Euro championship leve within 2 years. His name Steve Kean.

Also Sherwood was the captain when we won the Premier League.
At the time there could have been more obvious captains (Shearer, Hendry)
Therefore somewhere along the line he must be able to get his team together and work for each other.
Maybe we should at least give him a chance before we start slating him
I would rather give Sherwood a go than the merry go round of failed managers!

If I had a business and employed a rookie manager and the decision went disastrously wrong ( losing millions ), I would learn from my mistake, and not employ a rookie again.
Next time I would look for someone with more experience to put my trust in.

I still despair that Venkys and the Management Team did not have a replacement lined up for Kean at the outset.

Why does it take them 13 days to draw up a short list if they know who they want?

Just get it sorted - or do they just love the publicity - while saying absolutely nothing

Well if the bookie in question is Betfred you go from 2/1 against to 1/3 because someone had £500 quid on.

Baldy sh*its his pants, slashes the odds and when it wins he tries to knock you. And then runs a series of adverts telling us all he's "been giving us value for 40 years".

You are wrong.

The first question any manager will ask Venkys is: "Has somebody cleaned out the toilet since Kean left, because I don't want to walk into a lavatory which is smeared top to bottom in Kean's dried liquid ****"
