FULL TIME: Nottingham Forest 0 Blackburn Rovers 0

First published in Sport

BLACKBURN Rovers were held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest in the Championship tonight.

Rovers lined up in a 3-5-1-1 formation - with Scott Dann, Grant Hanley and Gael Givet all playing as centre backs – and Nuno Gomes saw an early shot saved by Lee Camp after collecting a lay-off from Jordan Rhodes.

Paul Robinson then had to be alert just before half time to keep out a deflected effort from Lewis McGugan at the other end.

Robinson had to deny Henri Lansbury after the interval, with Rovers introducing Colin Kazim-Richards from the bench on his return after more than a month out injured.

But Billy Sharp had a fine chance to break the deadlock for Forest, only to fire wide.

The match produced few other chances though, although Rovers felt they should have had a penalty when Jordan Rhodes went down.

Rovers: Paul Robinson; Scott Dann, Grant Hanley, Gael Givet; Bradley Orr, Jason Lowe, Danny Murphy, Mauro Formica, Martin Olsson; Nuno Gomes (Colin Kazim-Richards 63), Jordan Rhodes (David Dunn 86). Subs not used: Jake Kean, Bruno Ribeiro, Morten Gamst Pedersen, Fabio Nunes, Ruben Rochina.

Attendance: 18,748.

Probably best result. No good for Black's prospects of becoming manager. But at least a point for team, plus CLEAN sheet. Now let's get an experienced manager in SOON!

Don't underestimate the power of keeping a clean sheet! It is only the second game this season that we have been able to do that....maybe Hendry deserves a wee bonus?

FR you just don't get it do you??? If Rovers would have had 3 good stuffings last season on the trot then Venky's may (I stress the word may) have sacked Kean and we could have survived. Same goes for now...if a draw means Black not getting the job, then it is possible a decent manager will be installed for the greater good in the long run. 2 games, 2 draws, tightened up defensively. I'd say that's good work by the caretaker manager (Shebby, don't say he is manager). He's shoring it up before the new manager comes in. I'm now fancying Henning Berg as defensive coach alongside Solsjaer or Holloway.

FF...politics never sleep. We have to ensure that the fans have a say in what goes on. Just like the boycott we have to make it clear to the Venky's that we are watching their every action. Should they let us down again then we will let them know in no uncertain terms. As for not wanting a win. Short term pain is better than a drawn out death.

Don't underestimate the power of keeping a clean sheet! It is only the second game this season that we have been able to do that....maybe Hendry deserves a wee bonus?

Sorry couldn't resist that RC - but to be fair after all your rants you deserved that one....
hahaha yes, very good French rover , cant argue with your comments,

" yesterdays history ,tomorrows a mystery today`s a gift that`s why we call it the present "

we cant change the past thats history , but we can change the future , get back a winning mentality ,a manager that is a winner.
Nice to agree on something at last mr. RC

come on Darener....I cannot believe that you and some others on here still want to play politics even though Kean is gone...? It absolutely amazes me that you would still rather the Rovers did NOT win a game just so you can make a silly point...time you all called it a day I think.
Your inane ramblings have been proven wrong time and time again...look where the club is now ffs!!
That post just proves you are crackers smelly...always a moaner never a supporter! I guess it upsets you that the team are doing well hence the constant posts you make saying oh dear we better not win because of this or that or the other...either support the team or not!
Shame on you Frenchy, wanting your team to win.Call yourself a supporter? Don't know if you could hear it,but big rumours on Radio Lancs that Roy Kean was tied on for the job. That was, until Shebby texted Gally there and then ,while he was commentating, that it definitely wasn't true.

Yeah bad formation to play against a weak team, and yet Forest looked more likely than us to win the game, our strikers were starved of any decent service, and we still looked shaky at the back, even with 5 defenders. A lot of work still to do and I don't think the defenders are good enough at the moment, they are unsure of what to do and a few of them making schoolboy errors, some one needs to ask them what formation they are happy with and then stick with it until it gels, can't do anything else really until next transfer window.

We need a manager who knows how to play the game, OK Jordan Rhodes hasn't scored for the last few games but I'm not surprised as there isn't anyone on the pitch feeding him, Bradley Orr, Danny Murphy and Jason Lowe apparently had a shocking game tonight and when you need a goal why take your striker off? Black was obviously happy with a draw and if we draw on Saturday I don't feel that 3 points from 9 points is good enough.
We need a new manager after the Wolves game but I said the other night I dont think Venkys will want to pay and unfortunately I think Black will be the one we get stuck with. I hope I'm wrong!!!!

Thanks to kean's utter incompetence we are left with an imbalanced squad of unfit players.

The clown has left us with an emperor
with no clothes as venky's left us alone with a grinning abuser who treated us no better than the world's first DJ treated his young female fans as it 'appens guys and gals.

Taking the positives, however, we have some of the best individual players in the league.

Venky's owe it to us to appoint a manager who can reverse the damage and give us an excellent chance of promotion.

If they again fail us in this then it is incumbent on us all to ensure that our owners are left with the same tattered reputation that will befall the cigar smoking shell suited one.

Now then, now then, now then - how's about that then, Shebby?

I am happy that we got the first clean sheet, Robbo is showing some effort with center backs.

I am happy that David Dunn get few mts to play. I feel we should give chance to Rochina, Is Black is not confident on him ?

Attacking football we need to adapt to get more goals, If we do this defence and get draw all the matchs dosen't show as a champions, so get more tactical game plan and adopt it with sitivation soon to win matchs. we are a big club, now show the power of players we have in hour ewood.

A strong Experianced manager is necessary as soon as possible and hope Eric will be ok with that, no ego to carry over from such appointment. If we delay the appointment the players balance will affect, they become more lazy inside to do drills and match fitness.

Good Luck to next match.

As I mentioned earlier , when you play 6 defenders in a team
It s creates very little going forward yes it's a clean sheet, but you ain't going to be in the final shake up at the end of the season, to get promotion in this league you need at least 17 points out of every 27
That's
5 wins + a couple of draws every 9 games
As the table shows there's half a dozen at least on that target already
So getting 2 points out off 9 is nowhere near
We are playing mid table teams ,and the points return simply isn't good enough

It's points that count. A point away is a good result, we are in a transition phase at present. Surely nobody believes we would run away with the league after the mess Kean made and the players who he let go? A play-off spot is probably on, anything more would be very optimistic.

Too right you don't take football too seriously, and judging by your results that's all too obvious. You've got to "have a laugh" when you support a tin pot team who's won nothing for getting on for 100years.

I looked at the comments on here hoping that somebody who went to the game might give us an opinion on the football and how our team performed.

Sadly I think I've learnt 3 things:

1) that there probably wasn't much worth writing about
2) whoever is appointed the next manager our fans will still be highly divided
3) the education system in Burnley is still producing illiterate peasants.

Things can get better, here's hoping the Wolves match will start to restore some pride, both on the pitch and in the crowd. Although I doubt I'll ever see an intelligent dingle.

First of all, keep to your own site Dingle scum!
Went to my first game for months last night and as I thought, Black just carried on with the same old Kean rubbish. He had a chance to make his mark by shaking the team up but after the opening 30 minutes there was only one team going to win the game. Not a single player was better than average.

Went to my first game for months last night-wish I'd stayed at home watching Corrie. Not a single player was better than average and after the opening half hour only one side was going to win-good job they'd a few suspensions. Black just carried on in the same vein as Kean-out. He had the chance to kick some **** and make some changes.

A point is a point!
But except for the 1st 40 mins we were under the cosh.
1st league game I've see this season-I refused to legitimise kean by going!
Thoughts on performance-
defence still disorganised/unfit/g
ood to see 2 "up front" yet they had to feed on scraps/too often the ball does not go forward quickly enough-lack of confdence or lack of pace of midfielders?/Murphy?
??????? over rated from this viewing. On this showing there is not enough wit or fight to see promotion. If were a Forest fan I'd despair that they could not beat us.
Result? Get a manager in quickly with experience and the ability to- organise defence-team in general/
get them fit/
instil fight +desire to win!
Will venkys want such a manager and give him the funds?
Just my opinion.
There is much to work on after leaving kean in charge for so long.
ps-the stewards were great-friendly/helpf
ul. A contrast to the gangs of intimidating thugs in the darwen end last year. And a pat on the back to the rovers fans.Great support. Are the rifts healing? It was not nice at accrington pre season being confronted by 2 morons because I expressed displeasure at kean.

Sounds like we are still in a mess with a group of players and no tactical plan,we might have the best squad of players in the division I don't know for sure but unless someone can galvanise them get them fit,we look a yard to slow and introduce a pattern of play, Rhodes looks starved of ammunition then we are going to struggle we need someone capable of doing this as there does seem anybody on the present staff up to the task.

Those supporters who think we can waltz this division simply by appointing a competent manager are ridiculously over optimistic. The performance at Forest was on a par with that at Charlton. I have seen nothing so far this season to suggest we are better than the rest. Reality pills are required.
Perhaps it is those who do not go who are mostly deluded.

One step at a time... Kean gone, 1 1 draw 0 0 draw. Away from home. We are going in the right direction. Appoint an experienced manager then it's upwards and onwards. Never been more optimistic and you know me ever the pessimist..

First Rovers game for me last night. Not surprised how the defence lined up, and they performed ok, the central 3 that is (see the pic in LT of Givet taking a boot in the face, a warriior or a nutter).
Olsson reluctant to use his pace going forward which suggested to me that he's carrying an injury, but lightning quick when he did attack. Orr, I'll simply say he's not the best full back to grace that position for BRFC, and leave it at that.
Lowe, Murphy and Formica were all weak and failed to dominate anywhere in midfield. If that was one of Murphy's better games, then don't bother ordering any champagne for an end of season party.
The front two had no service of note and had to scrap for everything.

I think Black did ok considering the players he has. Kid yourselves not, this is not a good team and a new manager will need to bring players into the midfield and defence (quite where the money comes from I don't know), because some of those on display last night are simply not good enough to get us promotion.

It will get better I feel as the players certainly have the will and desire to succeed, no complaints on that score.

Get down Ewood on Saturday.

Sorry I dont think Black did very well.

Our best player from a few games ago, Nunes, did not feature. Our most creative talent Rochina, who has impressed when he has played did not feature. Its simply not fair on Rochina, what must he do to get a place in the team. He gives the ball away far less than Murhpy, Lowe, Orr .....

Formica only players well down the middle, with other players around him who can pass the ball, whats the point passing the ball to Murhpy or Lowe, probably a 30% chance of getting it back. With Rochina, and Nunes, they will be playing nice football and passing the ball round.

Mr John says...

I am not against trying to play with a new team formation. But when it clearly wasn't working, why on earth was it not changed. I also cannot understand why the team included 6 players whose main position is as defender (Givet, Dann, Hanley, Ollsen, Lowe and Orr) with only four proper outfield players of which one (Murphy) currently looks lost and out of form. If we are to get out of this league we have to be positive at home.
