RoverStars arrive in Blackburn
12:50pm Wednesday 5th September 2012 in Sport
THE transfer window may have closed, but Blackburn Rovers have welcomed two new faces to the club – all the way from Hong Kong.
James Kwok and Joshua Gostick, both aged 15, have arrived for a 10-day stay after winning the RoverStars scheme, which was launched in their homeland last year.
The talent identification initiative is the brainchild of the club’s owners, who are committed to scouting and developing young players from across Asia, by offering them a route to receive first class coaching.
The teenagers, who play for the Hong Kong Football club, impressed Rovers officials during last summer’s Asia Trophy.
The duo will be based at Brockhall, where they will train with Rovers’ Academy Under-16s.
Rovers’ global advisor Shebby Singh said: “The dream lives on as two young talents visit us with a great opportunity to showcase their talents and to pick up valuable insights into achieving the ultimate goal of becoming professional footballers.
“We at Rovers are only too eager to provide the platform for aspiring youngsters from every corner of the globe.”
