Kean believes Rovers are ready for an 'almighty promotion challenge'

STEVE Kean believes Blackburn Rovers have assembled a squad ready to launch “an almighty challenge” for Premier League promotion after spending more than £13million on rebuilding this summer.

Rovers yesterday completed the expected signings of Portuguese midfielder Diogo Rosado and defender Nuno Henrique on three-year deals and the season- loan capture of Polish international goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski, with an option to buy.

Jordan Rhodes, who completed a club record equalling £8million move from Huddersfield on Thursday, is expected to make his debut in this afternoon’s Championship trip to Leeds United - with Kean having added 12 new faces to his squad before last night’s close of the transfer window.

The wantaway Steven Nzonzi completed a move to Stoke City late on, for in the region of £3million, while David Goodwillie moved to Crystal Palace on loan.

Kean said: “With the quality we have added all summer, to get someone like Jordan is a massive statement. It makes our squad shine out with quality and gives us options all over, which is what we want.

“We were very disappointed with last season. We feel we have a squad assembled that can sustain one almighty challenge to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

“Everyone will look at us and we will be the team to beat. I would much rather have it that way, where we have quality, than not signing anyone and expected to go back up anyway. I think the pressure comes with the size of our club.

“We expect Leeds to be there or thereabouts as I’m sure they do. They have had a good start and it is a tough away game. We feel we have lots of quality and it is a good game for us.”

Sandomierski, 22, has signed from Genk, while Rosado arrives from Sporting Lisbon and Nuno Henrique from Academica.

Kean has described Rhodes as a natural goal scorer and is confident the 22-year-old will quickly adapt to life at Ewood Park.

Rhodes is likely to lead the line against Leeds this afternoon, with Colin Kazim-Richards still injured, as Rovers look to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Kean said: “Everyone knows what sort of player Jordan is. He has lots and lots of qualities and the one that shines out the most is his goal scoring ability.

“He has cost a lot of money but we feel as though it is a massive investment. We don’t see it as a big fee and look at it one dimensionally, we feel he can go on to massive things at the club.

“The fee itself looks like a statement but we are buying someone who can score any type of goal. We feel there is massive scope for improvement and we have got some player on our hands.

“Natural goal scorers come at a premium. I think his age, if he scores the goals I think he will score, it will be very, very good business. If he scores 25 -30 goals this season and we get promoted, it will be £15m and £17m tagged onto his head.”

I hope you dont play the lad up front on his own today, the time has come were we have to start believing we can beat teams like Leeds on their own patch as well as destroying all opposition at Ewood. This season a great deal will depend on team/squad strength and managerial nouse and tactical awareness .So according to you Mr Kean we have the squad now do you have the nouse! we will find out in the next two weeks.

Keeping hold of the majority of the squad coupled with the pedigree of the players brought in is what was needed.
Here's to hoping VENKYS are finally realising how to run our football club.
Assess the situation after 10 games, anything less than 22 points from thirty should be enough to remove Kean. We have the squad to walk this division, do we have a manager capable?

Kean won't resign,he's on a good number at Ewood. Venkeys will have to kick him through the door, which Jerome Anderson may not like as Kean is on his books.
I wonder how much Jerome Andersons company made out of all these deals?

Trying to justify the price tag no doubt. To be fair, we didn't do too badly in the transfer window all said. Whatever Baldy comes out with, his cards marked if this doesn't pay off. You've got Shebby saying three losses and he's out and regardless of whether anyone believes Venky's have made any investment or not, letting him buy 13m worth of players and then failing in the promotion bid can't be something that's going to go unnoticed. It's last chance saloon, no bull accepted for Mr Kean and that in itself is going to make it an interesting season.

If he succeeds in getting us promoted back to the PL again then fair play to him, but I doubt any fans really believe he's going to be in the seat should we make it back, so I say for now..

IGNORE KEAN SUPPORT THE TEAM.

for all you idiots who decide to booo every game and protest, have you ever thought to yourselves that maybe its you lot who also affect the results of the team! its nonsensical what goes on at every home game, n to be honest embarrasing, the clubs now a laughing stock! were all saying how the team hasnt been playing well, i wouldnt play well when my own fans dont care what goes on the pitch theyd rather fight a losing battle! don't get me wrong i dont want kean there as much as everyone else, but as weve seen we can protest all we want, but its out of our hands! so do everyone, the club, the town and yourselves a favour and get behind the team, otherwise miserable days will be the norm for brfc! all im asking is give the PLAYERS the chance, NOT KEAN OR VENKYS BUT THE PLAYERS a chance to get us back were we belong
Mate I feel sorry for you. Where have you been? You simply couldn't have been at the games the last two seasons. Are you short on memory? To blame your own fans for the performances and results is pretty low. To forget the criminal negligence of the owners, the shabby treatment of our senior players, the shady involvment of Geronimo Handison, the disgusting lies and complete managerial incompetence of Steve Kean, the suspicious signings of players, the outrageous public slagging off of fans, the disgraceful behaviour of stewards and security at the ground ...... I could go on. I know for a fact that a number of players felt exactly as we did. You need to think outside the box.
Hello Sergei,
you can come back even with humble pie on your face, we meerkats have a very forgiving nature,
Yours hopefully, Aleksandr

..... come baaaaaaaack

Well I think this transfer window makes the right statement. And I for one, I can't speak for the other 7999, would welcome you back down ewood to get behind the boys. Thats the kind of person I am. So lets move on and enjoy our football again.
Yours truly
one of the 8000, soon to be more.
It will be interesting to see if the 8000 grow ( or 7000 as some have suggested ).
Personally I doubt it , I think we will remain as the MAJORITY
I'll say there'll be another 2000 at the next home game if we get a result against leeds. If not it will probably be the same.

Yeah the negative stuff wasn't good. Kids witnessing it was the worst for me. Still if we get a bit of a roll going that could all change. Hope so otherwise freefall beckons.

Keano, show some balls admit you made mistakes, say sorry for your numerous lies,i think youve already burnt your bridges with the fans, but what about manning up,issue a challenge to the fans to get down Ewood and if were not in a promotion spot by oct/nov you'll walk.show some pride/bravery. Thats if you do actually care about the club of course. May well not be enough for most supporters, but you caused the divisions, but as a proffesional this should not stop you trying to build bridges, just start with a bit of honesty and humility.

S change of manager and I might agree with you Kean. Interesting to see where Rhodes fits in, coming on at centre half after an hour. Seriously this is a cracking championship squad but will it get the necessary direction and management? Not until Kean goes and hopefully we will not be too far off the pace.
Kean out now

A lot of positivity about over the last few days. Long may it continue. As others have said now is the time for Kean to do some grovelling and apologise for all his previous misdemeanours. That will in some small way begin the healing process and who knows maybe start the ball rolling to a reconciliation with some of the fans.

I'm relatively happy with the transfer window and this surely, surely must be his last chance to deliver!!??
The same old clap trap from the king of spin, all words & no results....... Kean out !!!

If we had a decent manager who would use these players right, then i would be fairly pleased with the summers transfers, why was Goodwillie never given a proper chance? why fight so hard for him last year then leave him out? To be honest i dont care what kean as to say....i dont trust him, he is a useless manager, and i worry what he will do to young Jordon Rhodes....kean is all mouth, just talks ****, and i dont believe a word he says.

kean is absolutely out of his depth,no doubt about it. to see him floundering today at 3-2 was embarassing. dannty murphy is not worth the shirt. 1000 + boycotters fantastic. keep it up. no ewood till numpty goes
