BREAKING NEWS: Rhodes due for Blackburn Rovers medical

Blackburn Rovers have had a bid accepted for Huddersfield hot-shot Jordan Rhodes - having already secured the services of Diogo Rosado.

Rovers will hope to have the striker (right) on board in time for Saturday’s tough trip to Leeds United, with the player due to undergo a medical at Brockhall tommorow.

It is understood Rovers agreed a fee with Huddersfield chairman this evening to get his ‘final price’ for the 22-year-old.

It is believed the Terriers were asking £8million for Rhodes, including £3m up front and the rest spread over four years, with Rovers finally opting to match their price.

Negotiations continued last night and Rovers will today hope to conclude the deal after weeks of chasing the prolific striker.

Rovers are confident the personal terms on offer to the player will be accepted, after offering the player a lucrative package.

Meanwhile Rosado is expected to be challenging for a spot in Blackburn Rovers’ squad for the trip to Bristol City on September 15.

One signing and an employee Of BRFC is out posting Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, get real, the Venkys promised 5 million EVERY transfer window, now they get (hopefully) One young talented lad whos confidence will be shattered after six weeks with this baffoon in charge, no if any other manager was in charge I would be over the moon but with Kean in charge, same old same old, Zzzzzzzzzzz

I do not believe it! I think it must be gamble by the owners. Instead of just buying and selling from Portugal they are spreading their bets and hoping for this big money gamble to pay off. Even if Rovers go down this season, they will hope Rhodes will show enough to temp big clubs to buy for £10m+ Whatever it is, it is unbelievable if it happens. Could be a ploy by Kean to blame confusion over his signing not going through as the distraction that caused defeat at Leeds and Bristol. He's got himself into deep doodoo that is going to be very difficult for him to talk his way out of.

I agree, an excellent signing for any Championship team or indeed Premier League too. £8 million is a massive outlay for a Championship club, especially one with 7000 season ticket holders and no sponsors.

IF Venky's have coughed up the money themselves then credit is due (for once) for putting their money on the table. I cannot help but feel this is another ruse to try and win over dissenting supporters for the season.

I personally feel that with 8 million pounds we should:

a) Spend £1.5 million firing Kean, Black, Brunskill and Hendry

b) Spend another £1.5 million hiring Mick McCarthy, Billy Davies or Alan Curbishley.

c) Give that manager the remaining £5 million to spend in January.

Just imagine what a real manager could do with the money Kean has spent this summer. People like Neil Warnock and Steve Bruce must be looking on with disbelief as to what they could achieve with such resources.

Still, signing Rhodes is a plus point in months of misery so I'll try to enjoy it (if it does happen).

Good post. The main point being that Kean lacks the skills needed to manage players.

Im very happy we have signed Rhodes don't get me wrong. I hope he's successful for us but it's looking doubtful given our current manager and tactics. We are getting battered in each and every match so chances for Rhodes will be at a premium. Knowing SK he'll use Jordan as 'young talent' and bench him with Simon for a year. Kean Out.

Hes a young goal scorer with bags of talent. loads of potential but already a great football league player. at the end of the day, theres going to be lots of players who are only with us for one season if we manage to get back to the premiership first time round, all be it unlikely Rhodes would be one of them, so theres no point anybody looking down there noses at the signings who are not prem standard, because the fact is we are not a premiership team, (yet?). you dont put race tires on a mountain bike, you buy accordingly to your enviroment, which is what we have done. hopefully carl pilkington wont be able to stifle his talent.

The difference between League 1 and the Championship isn't massive. Norwich and Southampton have achieved back to back promotions and Holt and Lambert have continued scoring. Rhodes may be unproven beyond League 1 but has started the season well - goal on his full Scotland debut and 2 in 2 for Huddersfield. A top signing and when Best returns a partnership too good for this league. Only one signing needed now - a new manager.

This would be a fantastic signing, albeit a bit of a move sideways for Rhodes. Why does he want to come to rovers?

The terriers play attractive football and feed him tons of decent balls. If anyone expects him to score 20+ goals this season they will be horribly disappointed - never going to happen with the negative football the clown and the chicken farmers have served up so far!!

However, if we get an actual manager in and with the right coaching he could potentially be our next shearer!!

I know it's a cliche to end on this, but here goes...

Kean out!!!!!

If this happens - and its still not guaranteed - I believe it will be the difference i.e. we WILL go back up to where we belong. There's little difference between the Championship and the next League down and let's be real about it the guy scored an excellent goal for the senior Scottish team recently. Many people raised their eyebrows when a certain Alan Shearer was signed from Southampton and whilst I am the first to say don't start comparing Rhodes with him just yet, this is potentially a great coup. Just one piece of the jigsaw left now - who will be the new Manager. Let's face it Kean will have no excuses now. He simply has to deliver or else he will be on his way to oblivion

Look I was there right throughout the 80's buddy, with little hope, but still plenty of expectation when we had sometimes an entire squad of about 16-20 pro's (admittedly only 1 sub back then!).

Jack Walker raised the bar beyond all expectation, and later Souness/Hughes led us back in UEFA Cup now Europa League, through league finishes and league cup victory - even those latter days may be long gone ... but that era put pride and reality back into our club - stuff that may even be hard to achieve for most Prem clubs now (any kind of European football) - but the likes of Nelsen, Samba, Tugay, Emerton, et al gave us pride, confidence and belief that on our day we could compete and beat the best in the land - through grit, hard-work and commitment ... it's all us Rovers fans ask - oh and a touch of honesty and integrity (Venky's take note) - and Kean it will never be in your dictionary so kindly p*** off and let us Rovers fans unite behind what we now have and let's move forward together - however if we are to achieve our aims with what we now have it is important to keep Martin Olsson and N'Zonzi - and somehow get rid of Kean - Shebby act NOW!

I do agree! The resentment towards Kean shouldnt overshadow the fact that Blackburn Rovers Football Club just bought Jordan Rhodes. He is one of the most promising strikers in England. So, please. Great signing if/when it happens - this is an actual sign of intent.

The question I think that needs asking more though, is why these players want/do come to Rovers?

Murphy, Etuhu, Gomes, Best, Rhodes etc etc.. all could have gone and in Rovers fans eyes, should have gone elsewhere given the choas around Ewood.

Many people raised their eyebrows when a certain Alan Shearer was signed from Southampton and whilst I am the first to say don't start comparing Rhodes with him just yet, this is potentially a great coup. Hopefully this deal comes off as Rhodes is one of the best strikers in the football league and he is still only young, there is definitely a prem career ahead of him.

Like others have pointed out, you buy according to your league and if we get Rhodes and only lose Nzonzi and Olsson, then we've had a very good window.

People need to be realistic, yes Venky's have royally screwed up and Kean is still not a manager but this is a big chunk of cash for what will be a great signing. There is nowhere for Kean to hide if he doesn't deliver results.

Just to point out, those who approve of this potential signing need to be thanking Shebby, this was always his baby and it shows just what authority he has in the corridors of power...

Welcome YRF. You will be on a steep learning slope to make sense of some of the contributions to this board - and beware trollers.
*
Rhodes will be a good partner with Richards if Kean plays 2 up front - a tactic our plank of a 'manager' doesn't use. Playing one up front and somebody 'in the hole' is not necessary for most games in the Premiership and certainly not at this level.
*
Playing sombody like Jason Lowe on the wing makes our forward threat even more dire. If he plays Rhodes and Richards together and finds room for Rochina somewhere in the mix we might start to look the business among these chumps.

Maybe we have been busy working and not had the luxury of sitting on our arse on here. Yes last nights performance was horrendous, in fact we havent played well in a long time. The tit for tat cup is secondary to promotion im glad we lost. So why did the great one say we can challenge on all fronts (damed if he does damned if he doesnt) Kean has probably learnt from his major gaffe last season saying we forfeited. It doesnt matter if you stay away or not the long term damage will be to the club we all claim to love by not puttin money into it. Venky's will take cash from transfers and parachute payments, running costs will come from the fans.

Other than those two - name me another player in our so called 'squad' who could command a transfer fee in excess of £5m - afterall Dann is more often a numpty so far - as demonstrated once more against Leicester City!

Olsson gives us pace, which the team is sadly lacking as a whole - oh and a guaranteed penalty at a certain place too - lol! N'Zonzi admittedly his attitude was shocking at the sharp end of last season as demonstrated at Swansea - however alongside Big Dick(son) with Murphy pushed further forward and say Kazim right and Martin Olsson left - either side of Rhodes we will have a chance - an excellent one at that ... otherwise you're relying on players of questionable ability and little class, either inexperienced or in need of a walking stick - lol! I'd like to keep hold of Olsson but Nzonzi isn't interested in Rovers at all anymore. It doesn't matter how good a player is, once his head ain't in it, i'd rather take the alternative.

If of course, Nzonzi turns around and says 'i'm well up for, get me back in there', then that would also be great but sadly, I think he'll be out on loan over the next couple of days.

It doesn't matter who we sign under this current, incompetent regime; they won't improve the team, or themselves. In fact, they will probably do more harm to their careers than good, but they will earn shed loads of money in the process, which it's what it is all about to most footballers.

In a nutshell: Kean and his cohorts would turn the likes of Messi, into the likes of Atkins.

Hmmmm - very observant tootsio11 - indeed neither have played, that's why we've been imbalanced and lacking class in our three league games thus far! That is why those two MUST stay - the sales of our better players must stop NOW ... oh and one more thing KEAN OUT - lol!

Yes, only Rovers could be so stupid as to spend 8 mill on a striker and then loan out one of your best players. It's about time Kean got off his high horse and started playing the best team.
Look at the sh*t performances this season with Keans team.

Kean out.

The question I think that needs asking more though, is why these players want/do come to Rovers?

Murphy, Etuhu, Gomes, Best, Rhodes etc etc.. all could have gone and in Rovers fans eyes, should have gone elsewhere given the choas around Ewood.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it Burnley lol can't wait for derby day now.
have you seen the wages he is on its treble that at HTFC.....I can understand the negative feelings towards the manager thats a given but some of the fans on here are having a laugh.....wake up guys we are about to sign a great bit of talent for this league and he is still young, as far as I am concerned Venkys have put money where there mouth is this time and hopefully are starting to learn from "some" of there mistakes. how much wages and do you think Murphy, Etuhu, Gomes, Best and now Rhodes will be on plus the transfer fees. As for the manager hopefully they can see the light on that one when we start losing games, its funny last season he was the most unlucky manager this season he has actually been very lucky.
Its venkys having a laugh at you mate. If they'd splashed the cash when we were in the PL eg paid for Jerome Jones, not sold our more experienced players, we wouldn't even be in this situation. You will never manage a club successfully always on the back foot correcting mistakes and doing what you should have done originally but when its too late. One young player isn't going to svae us or make the difference unless he has a good manager who knows how to set the team up. As it is Kean thinks everybody should pass. To Murphy to get him in the game. I believe I'm being realistic not negative and am using learning from history with these idiots so far

Wouldnt it be good if Rovers switched to 3 4 3 formation now instead of 4 4 1 1 with a choice of strikers when fit - at least we have the outline of a squad if the present incumbent moves on soon.

good lord, that came somewhat out of left field. here's hoping he first enjoys sturdy cruciates, and secondly bags a hatfull of goals this season.
probably a lot to pin hopes on one person, as we have started in lacklustre fashion, but i do think if you carry a significant goal threat from most situations, life is made so much easier. maybe the rest of the side can then relax a bit, and the youngsters can gain a bit of confidence.

Firstly, this has got to be great news and I wish Jordan Rhodes all the best and loads of goals. However, the continuing blind faith of the owners in the Manager is absolutely astounding and a grave concern.

Steve Kean has done nothing throughout his tenure to suggest that he has what it takes to become a decent Manager. He has had more than enough time to prove himself. We didn't go down because we had bad players, bad luck or a run of injuries, we went down because we were tactically inept with some players who quite clearly did not want to play for the Manager. After a couple of fortunate wins, it is clear that nothing has changed. It is an insult to all our intelligence for Venkys/the marketing men to think that fans don't understand that and that a few good signings will change everybody's attitude and make the club right.

Do we have a better squad now than the one we went down with? I don't think so. Could we a better side with a good Manager and worse players? Definitely!

Very pleased with the last few days of transfer activity. I feel we have secured some exciting some talent.

Rosado looks the part on the youtube clips I have seen of him, a good passer with great vision and looks as though he keeps his game very simple, which is key to many good footballers.

Henrique, the defender looks as though he provide cover for our main centre-backs and I feel will be bloodied in the games against lesser opposition.

And of course Mr Jordan Rhodes, who has more or less signed the doted line. This in my opinion will be a fantastic signing, he is strong, fairly pacey and has that crucial eye for goal. I know people have said he is unproven in a higher league but to them I say, who can't score 40 odd goals in League 1 and not be a pretty good player and with 2 games in the Championship he has scored 2 goals, one of which was against Burnley who for this League are still a good team (I know I will get stick for this) hence why I believe provided he gets the service (Of which Kean will really show if he has the management skills to change the team to suit Rhodes because the service the rest of the team has provided for the forwards so far has been woeful) he will get the goals we need to fire us back to the PL.

One thing I will say is that I still feel we need some extra cover across the back-line, I feel it is adequate barring several injuries. Kirk Broadfoot has just been released from Rangers due to their monetary issues, I feel this lad would be a shrewd acquisition as he naturally plays as a right-back but can equally play at left-back or centre-back, he also has European football experience which would be very handy, thoughts?

Well, with two tricky away games due, maybe that will take us to the magic three defeats figure. We either need to go on a winning run now, or hope that Kean has a disastrous run and goes within the next 3-4 games, any other scenario doesn't bare thinking about.

The patient has had a necessary infusion. But is still on the critical list. The consultant has managed to stem the flow of blood. Replacing old with new. But his main cause for concern is the junior doctor who despite the faith shown in him by the Matron is still not showing any signs of being capable of understanding the patient.
The visitors around the bedside have dwindled alarmingly and show no signs of improving. But the latest prognosis for the patient is that the he will show signs of improvement over the short term. But long term unless there is a change of medical staff he will probably have a relapse, thereby sinking lower in health. There is a chance that should the Matron see fit to change her stance she will either embrace the calls for a new doctor or even leave the hospital all together and hand it over to a more fitting group.

Good morning Lancs. I see you are as happy as ever this morning.
I agree with you that Venkys have not been as good as they suggested they were going to be when they arrived.
Maybe they are learning a very hard lesson but at least they may be learning.
I also agree that Kean should have been long gone.
However, we are were we are and have to get on with it.
The bottom line, are you a fan of BRFC the team or just a fan or not a fan of the manager whoever that may be at any given time.
BRFC have been in a lot, lot worse positions than they find themselves in today and I imagine you have been around to witness them bad times.
Rovers find themselves as we speak 3rd in the league, with do debt and just about to sign a player for £8m.
We as fans get some bad press but when you are not supporting your team when things are bad then you deserve the bad press.
There are a lot of (fans) and I use that word very loosely that post on here that claim to return when Kean has gone.
Well I am sorry but you are not fans, you are fans of a team that may be doing well and therefore you follow them when all is well. Commonly known as glory hunters.
The moment it goes bad you are off.
Well that is fine but I believe you should support the team and the real fans have been at Ewood already this season.
Would you rather be supporting a team for example like Preston that has no immediate future prospects of top flight football. No money and only signing loan players or signing freebies?
I dont believe any Rovers fan would want that.
Morst the Numpty has even resorted to signing off here completely (thank god) as he was so disillusioned. Well if that is a fan I will plait sawdust.
Apart from Kean, as I have said he would have been long gone, I am not sure we as a club are in that bad a position.
Venkys at long last appear to be spending some money.
Before you hit me with we sold a,b or c and the money has gone.
Go and ask EVERY Burnley fan were all the money has gone from the Premier League money and the sale of players. Also look at what they have spent.
What position would you rather be in??

Oh how you like the sound of you own words, spoken like a true.

I don't know if you realise, but the Manager is the team. He has the say on whether they play defensive or not. Go for goals or not. Which player plays when and where.

And thet brings me to my point. Whatever players he has available, he hasn't got it at professional level, he has proved this in front of the whole football world.

The calamity of last season was him falling out with a good Prem side, and the result, sell all the players who don't agree, what has that got to do with good football?

The footabll being played is terrible, and the results will soon follow.

Any player that was around at the start of his Managerial role, is now only half the player they were, fact.

If this guy signs, he'd better have large shoulders, he's got a lot of team to carry.

Hi FBW
Not having the best of mornings, you have some valid points on here, in the real world we should support our team through thick and thin but there are problems at BRFC at the moment that I have never seen in my life time as a BRFC fan.
We all now what they are and its no use just keep repeating them again and again, however worryingly people like Morst (god bless him he did have the club at heart really) and myself are getting fed up, yeh we moan but we still keep posting, still keep going to away matches when we can, I believe what we are seeing now is fans deserting in there thousands and will never return, yeh some posters call them glory hunters but I think they have just had enough and more to the point these fans will never return like in 1960.
I can remember when the Rovers could not afford there milk bill so I do go back a bit but even in them days when you could turn up at the Blackburn end at 2.55pm and still get on the terrace before kick off and watch a good game of football, did us fans talk about the directors/owners/Glo
bal advisors, no, we just went on and hoped our team won.
I have to say I do feel a bit like Morst and just giving up, all the fans getting at one another is not what BRFC is about its just a game of footy!

Good article in the Huddersfield Examiner today about Rhodes departure:

WHILE Huddersfield Town fans will be concerned to see Jordan Rhodes joining a divisional rival in Blackburn Rovers, there are some consoling factors to be taken into consideration.

Firstly, chairman Dean Hoyle has done everything he can to ensure the club he’s supported since boyhood got the price they were looking for – a record-smashing £8m.

That sort of cash opens doors for them to recruit one, two, maybe three players to ensure the work started by manager Simon Grayson – with eight new arrivals so far – continues to the extent that Town establish themselves strongly at Championship level.

It has become clear that Rhodes wanted to talk with Blackburn once the level of their interest was revealed – and that put Town in an impossible position.

Once a player wants to leave and take advantage of a whole new world in earnings potential – it’s been rumoured in Lancashire that Blackburn can offer as much as £40,000 a week – then there’s very little point in holding them back.

Club owner Hoyle said earlier in the week that Town wouldn’t stand in Rhodes’ way providing their financial demands were met – and a guaranteed £8m certainly does that.

It might not be ideal that Blackburn have come up with that cash, but their approach to the Championship is still on a Premiership level.

They were in the top flight only a few months ago, stlll have the benefit of parachute payments and, while Town have come up from League I and built on already sound foundations by expanding their commercial enterprise, they are not in a position to compete with contracts such as the four-year one which, understandably, has attracted Rhodes to move to Ewood Park.

A fair bit of reporting from our Yorkshire cousins.....

From what I hear,Shebby is in charge of all transfers. Also he as confirmed that he has the authority to sack Kean. He will give Kean the players that should secure promotion, its up to Kean to mould them into promotion contenders,if he cant achieve that ,Kean will go and not sidewards. It seems that Keans tenure starts at the end of the current transfer window when all players are here.He will be judged from then onwards. That means from the Leeds game the clock will be ticking for Kean,he will have to prove himself or out he wil go.

There is a silver lining to this signing-kean will have to play 2 up front to justify any of the signings that he has made as strikers are pretty much all he's bought!! And he'll have to get the rest of the team pushing up the field to give Rhodes the service he needs.

I say this but there hasn't actually been a match under his dire tenure where I haven't scratched my head at his starting 11 or his subs.

...don't want to mention the white elephant in the room, but how much is this guy going to be paid (no wonder he wants to come to ewood) - if reports of 40k+ a week are true then we really have to question whether this was a good bit of business for a 22 year old prospect!?!?

Great signing - and all credit to Venkys for finally getting their man.

Well done to all involved. This is truly something for us real fans to get excitec about.

I hope that Goodwillie stays as I can see a future Scottish intenational partnership at Ewood sparking off each other and giving us something special at the sharp end of the pitch.

Fantastic news.

Been a long time coming.
So long as their being played in there rightful positions and and being fed by midfielders and wingers instead of playing forever a defending game these strikers have a chance , Goodwillie has not been looked after up to now , he needs a run of games with a good partnership and this is the ideal opportunity ,if kean dont play to their strengths then im afraid he could ruin them .

This has got to be crossroads for kean ,a lethal goalscorer in Rhodes ,play to their strengths .
Kean has no excuses left - he has to partner someone with Rhodes, a talent his bosses are forking out 8m for.

If Kean felt the pressure was on him last season it just got turned up by several notches.

Personally, I would like to see Goodwillie and Rhodes given a run up-front, at least in home games and the 'easier' away-games with C-K-R supporting when he is back fit.

Nuno Gomes will never play a full game but has the talent to change a game if used properly.

For once we might see us forcing other teams' midfielders into playing on the back-foot instead of ceding this area of the pitch to the opposition.

Here's hoping!

Its funny but iv been reading posts all day following the game against MKDons and none of your type have had anything to say in defence of last nights performance. You sir are the same as those you criticise only at the opposite end of the spectrum. Just gte off your soap box and get on with your supporting. Keep your eye on the football not other people. I stood next tol folk like you last season who said the same things until it was too late and they realised we had been fed a load of rubbish and we were doomed. Thit this, we could sign Rhodes or Messi but the imposter of a manager is the same amateur. You know whart you get with a canvas and oils in the hands of an amateur don't you? That man ruins footballers
Your first post on this thread was to call anybody who doesn't think the same way as you a 'numptie' and a 'so called fan'.

Your second post was to appeal to the aforementioned 'numpties' to get behind the team.

Your third post was to insinuate that those people who don't think the same way as you do are also unemployed, layabouts.

You really do think you're better than everybody else, don't you? Well guess what, admitting that you're glad we lost to MK Dons firmly puts you into the bracket of 'so called fan'.

Regardless of the primary objective you should always be gutted if your team loses a game, no matter what competition it was in. A good cup run would've benefited the team both morale wise and financially. I'm sure you've had something to say about those fans who wanted Rovers to lose three games if it meant Kean's dismissal and yet here you are, effectively celebrating a loss.

He's a fantastic acquisition, albeit a bit over-priced in my opinion. However, unless Kean changes the formation I doubt we'll see a front two of Rhodes and CKR. Kean's preferred formation seems to be 4-4-1-1, even when we're playing at home!

Bearing that in mind, I think you'll see Dunn and Gomes alternating in the hole behind Rhodes. CKR will probably be shifted back to his natural position on the right wing.

All i can say is you got him from us for a bargain price.Hes easily worth more than that and our chairman is an **** to let him go for that meagre amount.still i wish him well and hope he performs for you guys as well as he did for us.I think though you need more than him.Venkys are idiots to keep Kean on.Hed have been sacked ages ago had he been our manager.Good luck rovers.

He would have been sacked ages ago if he had been at any other club. In fact he would never have got the job in the first place,

All you naysyers have to admit that Kean has done brilliantly to land this boy. I saw him on Sky just now with a sh*it eating grin but I reckon half of you had faces like thunder because you actually want him to fail. Get back through those turnstiles and have this crowd up to something higher than 13500. And you have the nerve to call yourself "fans"?

I was at Ipswich. Where were you ?
