Portuguese teen set for Blackburn Rovers run-out

BLACKBURN Rovers have handed a trial to Portuguese teenage striker Edinho Junior but are ready to call time on their frustrating bid to sign compatriot Adrien Silva.

Edinho, 18, has come through the youth ranks at Portugal first division outfit Olahense and will be given the chance to earn a move to England in Rovers’ pre-season friendly double header at Accrington tomorrow.

Rovers have already signed two Portuguese players this summer in striker Nuno Gomes and winger Fabio Nunes, while their fellow countryman Paulo Jorge is also set to be offered a contract – after arriving on trial earlier this week.

Freiburg’s Mali striker Garra Dembele will also be given a chance to impress at the Crown Ground, having started a trial with a view to a loan move yesterday, along with Malaysian defender Titus James Palani.

Rovers are hoping to conclude their summer transfer activity as quickly as possible as they look to strengthen in every position – although their chase of Silva is set to run out of steam.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands the club has given the 23-year-old midfielder until the end of the weekend to resolve his current situation with Sporting before giving up on their efforts.

Silva is currently locked in negotiations with his club over the possibility of a new deal but, did feature for them in a pre-season friendly against Charlton last night, and Rovers are ready to run out of patience.

Edinho was reportedly a £500,000 target for Celtic in February., with Rovers waiting for him to arrive in England last night.

Boss Steve Kean is still looking to strengthen in ‘all areas of the pitch’, having already signed Danny Murphy, Leon Best, Gomes and Nunes in the last two months.

Kean declined to comment on names or numbers but did reassure fans defensive reinforcements were being searched for – on top of their efforts to strengthen going forward.

Rovers supporters have been growing increasingly concerned by the lack of defenders so far signed this summer, after a horrific defensive record last time out.

Kean said: “We are working hard day in and day out to try and improve the squad, all over the pitch. We are looking at the back, in midfield and up front. All over.

“I don’t want to mention numbers but I can let you know we have not stopped from the last day of last season in trying to improve the squad.

“The signings we have made already shows our ambition to get up and we will continue to try and add in that vein. We want quality, experience and types that are going to be very good around the place.”

Rovers’ finances look set to receive a boost with reports coming out of London that Junior Hoilett has opted to sign for Premier League outfit QPR.

The out of contract winger is understood to have agreed a deal yesterday and will put pen to paper imminently. Rovers can expect to receive in the region of £4million as compensation.

Meanwhile former Rovers defender Colin Hendry will be officially unveiled as a new coach at the club today.

Yes, they show your ambition, Kean, ie no ambition. They are all 'maybes', replacement of players with squad players in the hope they might come good. I suppose eventually you'll hit the jackpot and one of the numerous mediocre signings will blossom. But we might be out of the league by then.

I should have mentioned the 'has-beens' as well. But there's nobody who 'is' a great signing.

I feel really sad that I wont get the chance to see Junior play for us again. A great talent, not blossomed due to a shockingly poor manager.

Watch this space - QPR will sell him for £15m+ within the next 3 years. This should have never been allowed to happen.

The best way to improve the squad......get rid of Kean!

We are looking to strengthen in all areas, while pursuing only midfielders and strikers and mainly unknown Portugese players, who would not know the first thing about English Champiosnhip football. Maybe Kean will get a villa in Portugal once this summer is all over who knows?
-
Oh I almost forgot the Shaggy Singh token asian player on trial maybe we can sign him as a defender, and then proceed to hide him away like the next Dennis Irwin and the dodgy agents son?

Hoilett never blossomed due to the enormous constraints of his dad and his ego, we can't blame Kean for that, he gave him chance. Glad to see the back of him myself. His decision to choose QPR shows what ambition he's got ..... And it's financial!...

All these signings and not a merque signing among them. Gomes might have been a few years ago but not now.

I agree it's probably financial - even though I believe Rovers made him a fantastic offer.

As for not blossoming fully. Again I agree, however I think that's down to playing under a terrible manager. Under Sparky (a proper manager) I believe he'll turn out to be a fantastic player.

I suppose there's one good thing to come out of it - with him joining QPR Rovers will get more money.

I think Best and Murphy are Keans signings, the cheap portugese players are the work of another. The fewer defenders we sign the more chance Myles Agentson will get.

It seems at the moment they are concentrating on poundshop players, so I expect 3 good players to leave to be replaced by 1 good player and 4 cheap foreign "prospects".

Colin Hendry is a disgrace, thievery of that kind has no excuse.

Interesting to read yesterday that part of the delay was to wait for work permit clearance for Hoillett.
Our universal advisor thinks his mate will get one easily because he's been roaming around France for 10 years.

He's just a greedy little boy, what happened to loyalty ?

A Darener says...
1:02pm Fri 20 Jul 12

Loyalty ended when football sold its soul to Sky. Modern day footballers move with the money. The likes of one club footballers ended years ago. Players like Dougie, Clayton, Finney, etc. they would go to games on the bus after drinking with the fans. Now they turn up in their limos dash into the ground and avoid the fans whenever they can.

The people negotiating must be naive as Silva was obviously working with his agent to remain in situ on a much larger wage.We all wondered what could possibly attract him to the championship and again we were correct nothing attracted him and Kean's arrival there obviously made him realise he was better off where he was.

Rovers will get more money? You mean Venky's will trouser more cash. Silva? Get real we'd have had to PAY. Nothing has changed, more mediocrity lies ahead under this shambles of a regime.

Hope he breaks his legs :)

He will have a release clause in his contract, but will tell everybody how exciting it is to sign for such a big club as QPR.

Whilst he showed flashes of skill last season, he was not a 90 minute man, and at times had the inability, or couldn't care less attitude, to track back.

Edinho Junior is a good choice if Holliet goes, we need young legs to replace Gomes after 65 mts of each game....lol.

Give some shooting experience inside the box and 25 yard for next week, he will be ready with english clubs.

Kean speaks port, then it is fun too...Good Luck, Silva is missing a chance to play in english clubs.

.

But english clubs managers offers means is an offer, no one will override the call until he is a big player like messie..............
..lol,

Silva is not taken the best oppurchunity to pair with Murphy, who got best experiance in english football. think positive to be big in games.

Why are people slagging these players off, let's give them a chance to prove themselves, then if they are rubbish then fair enough but having a do, but before a ball has been kicked is unfair. As for the comments about building the squad, what do people expect!? We've just been relegated, so players are going to want to leave...let them, if they can't be loyal in the hard times when can they!? Unfortunately this means replacements being made no matter how big or small of a name. Marquee signings, do you think we were going to go out and sign Rooney, Kaka and Messi!? Marquee signings unfortunately aren't going to happen for us! As much as I hate Kean, Agnew and the rest of the puppet masters that have ruined the club, I am one of the few that have re-newed my season ticket, I dont want to line the pockets of Mrs D as much as the next man, but good luck to you stay aways, Saturday afternoons, getting dragged around the shops, having to do the DIY, visiting your annoying in laws, I know where I would rather be, even if it is Barnsley on a cold December afternoon. I wonder how many stay aways will stay away on March 16th, just a thought!?

You enjoy your Saturday afternoons in the company of Coco the Clown, my friend. Me and my in-laws (all Rovers fans) will be climbing the Cumbrian mountains, then dragging ourselves back down to a boozer, good grub, logfire but with a designated driver (we don't want a drunk to be driving us home, do we?)

Quite; why are the alternatives always supposed to be so dire?

If you have to do this sh!te regardless, what's the difference between Saturday and any other day? And if you don't, why should you suddenly start doing it on a Saturday afternoon?

A couple of pints watching a decent game on the box, whilst temporarily being able to put to the back of my mind the debacle which continues to unfold down at Ewood?

Seems a darn good alternative to me.
