Kean: I have no idea if Samba will play

STEVE Kean admits he “has no idea” whether Chris Samba will be in Blackburn Rovers’ squad for Saturday’s crucial visit of Queens Park Rangers.

Rovers’ want-away skipper was not involved in Saturday’s 7-1 drubbing at Arsenal, despite being “fit and available”, and Kean admits talks will need to be held in an attempt to resolve the situation.

Samba went public last month on his desire to quit Ewood Park, suggesting he could not be 100 per cent for the club any more, and he has not featured since.

Keith Andrews, who left Rovers for West Brom last week, has suggested he does not expect Samba to play for the club again and Kean did little to clear the uncertainty, saying: “All I will say on it without going too deep, because I am not a legal expert, is he is fit and available for selection but I have decided not to put him in the squad.

“He is one of my key defenders and you always miss any player when they are not available. It is a position we would like to get resolved as soon as possible.

“The position we are just now is not really helpful for anyone. I have no idea if Chris will be involved next weekend.

“We’ll deal with that but I don’t want to talk about players who were not in the squad, I’d rather talk about the lads who were.”

Gael Givet won’t be available for the weekend, as he prepares for a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Robin Van Persie.

Kean had no complaints about Givet’s dismissal but admits, at 3-1 down, an already difficult task became almost impossible.

Kean said: “It was a tough afternoon. It is hard enough playing against them with 11 man, let alone 10. The biggest bearing on the game was the early goal and us going down to 10 men.

“I really don’t think the referee had a difficult decision to make because we all know the rules now, if you leave the ground with two feet, you know those sort of challenges are not going to be accepted any more.

“It was uphill from there. Gael is cut up. He is a very genuine guy and the way he plays everyone will know that.

“The turning point of the whole game is the sending off, because I still felt we could regroup, make a couple substitutions but when you go down to 10 against Arsenal, they are very good at finding their way through.

“It is not forgotten, far from it. We will work our way through every goal to make sure it does not happen again.”

Shock admission from the manager finally proves that he has, "No Idea" !!!
I think the fans have known that for a while.

Regards Saturdays game, I think the turning point was not when Givet was sent off, but actually when the Ref blew the whistle to start the game!

Samba must be available and willing to play against QPR and Kean must select him. You cant have an asset like Samba at the club and not use him.

Our defense has been poor all season but that is a more down to the constant changes rather than Samba playing poorly. In fact I would be surprised if we ever had the same defensive line-up in two games running.

Stop all the embarrassing talk about 'legal' issues and get the show back on the road pronto....

If the manager does not know if one of his players is going to play or not, then who the f*ck does ? This is really a circus.

Kean is "not a legal expert". I read that as Samba has told Kean to take a run and jump. Andrews said that Samba will not play for Rovers again so it makes you wonder how many players are actually with Kean. From what we've read recently there are quite a few who definately are not with him. He has lost the team captain, the club captain to name just the outspoken ones.

If he's fit and available he should play! He was happy enough to sign a big contract now honour it!

Everyone understands and agrees venkeys have let everyone down but don't cry off about it.

Plus it's not really sending a good message to those 'big clubs' you want to sign for Chris. If you don't get your own way....saulk! Let's remember only QPR actually bid for you, if you wanna go how about playing your heart out for the club until the end of the season and see where we r then.

Surely the question is - has Kean told him he is playing and he has refused or has Kean decided to leave him out because "his mind is not right". Given Givet's absence it will be interesting to see whether our former team captain has the moral fibre to turn in and do the job he gets paid so much to do. Me thinks we are cutting of our nose to spite our face here. It seems that the decision not to play Samba is coming from high in Pune. The problem is with all our problems over finance we are going to halve his fee in the summer proving what most of us said we should sell in Jan. In addition it now looks as though we will get nothing for Hoilet as he looks to be heading to Germany for free. What a b***dy shambles after all we were told and should have left negotiations to a proper chairman instead of leaving it all to amateurs. All of this will cost the club something in the region of £10 million. Time to switch off the lights at Ewood.

Maybe such an assessment is understandeable at times over the contractual situation of certain players.

Steve Kean will not be sacked by Venkys this season or next.
I can see the club going right through the championship as venkys asset strip the club that Jack Walker built.
It really is a complete shambles on how to run a company
Kean is on a pittance of a wage as far as prem managers go , in the region of £15.000 a week , a lot to us but to venkys not a lot as they will milk the parachute payments when the club is finally relegated this year.
Apparantley from sources within the club " It is a complete shambles"
I stopped going over 12 mths ago de-faulting on my season ticket, despite letters from the club i have refused to pay the balance of £175-00.
The reason why was they Venkys broke promises to season ticket holders, i have had a season ticket since 1984, often going in the 100 club and A BOX member , not anymore , and if what i am told there will be no one buying next year , only the real die hard supporters, of which i was once, going to many away games too.
It saddens me to see the club being run like it is , but people who laugh beware it could so easily happen to you , when we have the spineless people at the fa and also a man who is chairman of the LMA , and a regular visitor to Ewood sitting back and doing nothing, hang your head in shame!!!!!!!!!

Is this some kind of joke Kean? YOU ARE THE BOSS! SORT THIS OUT!

As for Samba, i've lost respect for him because he's on self imposed strike - get over yourself and play for the club that pays your wages NOW, or you'll lose the respect you've built up with the fans over the years. I know he's born in the DR Congo but he's really showing his French side (raised in the Paris suburbs... a la 'La Haine') with all this inactivity (Sorry FrenchRover!). These are the facts Samba, no big clubs want you right now, PSG? NO. SPURS? NO. ARSENAL? NO. The only club that wanted you was QPR, they were told no and went out and bought someone else. Move on from your strike and act like the captain you are supposed to be.

Kean states that "Chris is fit, available but will not be in the squad. It is from our side." There seems to be no suggestion that Samba has refused to play post his statement some weeks ago. If he is fit and training and Rovers face a must win game with QPR, why not play him ? After Saturday's abject capitulation a less than 100% Samba can't possibly do any worse than some who were on display.
It was not that long ago that a certain Man Utd striker said he wanted out as the club lacked ambition ? Same player, properly managed, had a starring role yesterday and was commitment personified. Maybe the key is the manager, not the player ...

With all due respect, I do not see it as whether Samba plays or not is the solution to our own personal disaster movie.
The reason we are where we are is Venkys, ably assisted by Kean, acting as a pretend manager.
No proper investment forthcoming.
Using agents and chicken farm managers to dictate transfer 'policy'.

In looking to blame Samba for this as being 'influential' in our impending demise is playing a little into their hands.

Even if true there are a couple of problems with this.

1. I think it's too late now
2. Venkys are the huge part of the problem they need to go
3. Which manager of standing in their right mind would walk into this dogs breakfast.

I think they no have option now except to stick with Kean and see if he can perform a miracle.

Let's have this right here. There's a lot to critisise kean about but the non playing of samba is not one of them. Our captain is the disgrace here. Ok he wants to leave, promises have been broken etc but to refuse to play is disgraceful. He needs to sort himself out and make himself available, let's face it there will be many players who want to leave but they haven't taken sambas stance.
Also only qpr bid for him. Is he as good as he thinks he is?

Should also say that what Chris Samba is doing is NOT going to change the administration at Blackburn. Kean will still stay regardless of whether or not Samba plays.
Keans already starting to use his and venkys deceitful communications again i see, by the use of the samba saga, samba dont forget has not played for weeks now including the games kean was claiming we had turned a corner, were on the up. Kean is now using samba to deflect any criticism from himself and venkys own failings and atrocious management of the team and the poor performance on saturday of the team.We all know samba is wrong for not playing but dont let kean deflect anything from what is happening at ground level. He and he alone should apologies, not for the team but for his own shocking running of rovers, its his team his management his ideas that have failed again and again. Not just for saturday but all season long, he should now resign, nothing else will do now, nothing else will ease the pressure of the last few remaining games for the players and the fans. To save BRFC and its good name and integrity his resignation must come before anything else now we can not move forward until then, he talks like its been all good up to the Arsenal game the guy is a fully qualified bulls***er trained by his masters the venky snake charmers kean before anything else can change you must go now. .KEAN OUT VENKYS OUT.
Didn't read this first, but yes like me you see the cloak and dagger scenario acting out. Just like it has for all of their tenure.

I would hope ALL supporters to see it for what it is.
As I said earlier Chris if anything has scored an own goal and handed them the 'opportunity'.
They must have been rubbing their hands when he did.
Yep its been as i keep saying smoke and mirrors from day one,

The truth is that in the space of just eighteen months Blackburn Rovers have descended from being the best run club in the Premier League to probably the worst. Without any doubt this is the fault of the Venkys and just the Venkys. The Venkys have acted disgracefully and should retire dishonourably. I would still like to know why Steve Kean bought Myles Anderson on the recommendation of his father and Steve Kean's manager, Jerome Anderson. Myles Anderson is not even mentioned as a possible first team player. A very large amount of money was allegedly paid to Jerome Anderson. To me the club and it's owners have been had. I am afraid to say Blackburn Rovers under this present wretched regime wholly deserve to be relegated. I say this with a heavy heart. As for Chris Samba, I think all the fans of the Rovers sympathise with the reason why you wish not to be considered to play, however, it is the fans hour of need and we need you play next Saturday. Chris play for the fans.

He doesn't want to play. He says he can't give 100 per cent if he is asked so do you want him playing if he's not up for it? Keith Andrews doesn't think he will play again and he's in a better position than most to comment on it. The club should have sold him when they had the chance. He is now pulling in 40000 a week for doing very little. They can't stop his wages so it's money down the drain. His value is decreasing and come then end of the season he won't be worth the 10m or 15m that some people think, not even half that. Not selling him has cost the club millions.

He has been lied to by the owners/manager as has every Rovers supporter but he's taking the action he is because he can't stand on the terraces screaming Kean Out or Venkys Out. He can't do a 24 hour protest. He can't wear a t-shirt. He can't march around the streets with the rest of them. He's taking the strongest stance of all!

I see in Monday's "The Times Newspaper" there is an excellent article on Mr Assen Allam, the self made owner of Hull. If only we could have attracted an owner such as Mr Allam rather than the Venkys. Mr Allam bought Hull because Hull were almost bankrupt and he wanted to give something back to the community who had befriended him thirty years earlier, when he arrived in the town as a refugee from Nasser's regime in Eqypt. Mr Allam's motives are exemplary; the Venkys disgraceful. Very sorry to see one of our most loyal and best players sitting on the bench for Spurs last night; I wish you the best, Ryan but you really should be still here and I am sure you would be if John Williams had still been in charge. The sooner the Venkys leave this club the better, however I think they may have to be forced out. I think the comment immediately above this one should be removed as it is racist and a disgrace and who ever posted it should be brought to task.

You say he needs to 'make himself available'.
Are you in a position to know that in fact he has said he isn't?
Are you confident that Kean is and has always told the truth?
Are you confident that Venkys are and always have acted in the best interests of the club?

The point I am making is, that unless you are 'knowledgeable of the dealings inside of Ewood - as fact. And your faith in the owners and Kean is bulletproof.
Why should you we trust what they say?
I will say again that no one is justifying Sambas actions, but on the reverse side why would we take Keans 'slant' on the situation as reality?

Samba as an individual/employee is not the problem and thus his current 'position' is of small matter the the bigger picture.
People who 'spin' just love these kind of 'opportunities' to present themselves.

Excellent points raised, has Samba refused to play? if so why has'nt Kean stated this, and Samba been disciplined and the facts made public? Maybe S Keans man management skills are on a par with his football management skills?

The trouble is, you lot will move on, pehaps to ruin another sports venture with a proud past, but unfortunately, I was born and bread here and what you have done will never be forgotten!

Another nail in the coffin of a once proud industrial English town.

I will not comment anymore about BRFC, I really have given up.

Make Samba play upfront as a striker for the rest of the season alongside the Yak, should be interesting, even if he doesn't put 100% in.
If we played him in defense and he started making mistakes everyone would be on his back, so a striking role for him and it shows potential buyers how good he is in this position and get's him his move at the end of the season.
