By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
STEVE Kean admits he “has no idea” whether Chris Samba will be in Blackburn Rovers’ squad for Saturday’s crucial visit of Queens Park Rangers.
Rovers’ want-away skipper was not involved in Saturday’s 7-1 drubbing at Arsenal, despite being “fit and available”, and Kean admits talks will need to be held in an attempt to resolve the situation.
Samba went public last month on his desire to quit Ewood Park, suggesting he could not be 100 per cent for the club any more, and he has not featured since.
Keith Andrews, who left Rovers for West Brom last week, has suggested he does not expect Samba to play for the club again and Kean did little to clear the uncertainty, saying: “All I will say on it without going too deep, because I am not a legal expert, is he is fit and available for selection but I have decided not to put him in the squad.
“He is one of my key defenders and you always miss any player when they are not available. It is a position we would like to get resolved as soon as possible.
“The position we are just now is not really helpful for anyone. I have no idea if Chris will be involved next weekend.
“We’ll deal with that but I don’t want to talk about players who were not in the squad, I’d rather talk about the lads who were.”
Gael Givet won’t be available for the weekend, as he prepares for a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Robin Van Persie.
Kean had no complaints about Givet’s dismissal but admits, at 3-1 down, an already difficult task became almost impossible.
Kean said: “It was a tough afternoon. It is hard enough playing against them with 11 man, let alone 10. The biggest bearing on the game was the early goal and us going down to 10 men.
“I really don’t think the referee had a difficult decision to make because we all know the rules now, if you leave the ground with two feet, you know those sort of challenges are not going to be accepted any more.
“It was uphill from there. Gael is cut up. He is a very genuine guy and the way he plays everyone will know that.
“The turning point of the whole game is the sending off, because I still felt we could regroup, make a couple substitutions but when you go down to 10 against Arsenal, they are very good at finding their way through.
“It is not forgotten, far from it. We will work our way through every goal to make sure it does not happen again.”

Me thinks we are cutting of our nose to spite our face here. It seems that the decision not to play Samba is coming from high in Pune. The problem is with all our problems over finance we are going to halve his fee in the summer proving what most of us said we should sell in Jan. In addition it now looks as though we will get nothing for Hoilet as he looks to be heading to Germany for free. What a b***dy shambles after all we were told and should have left negotiations to a proper chairman instead of leaving it all to amateurs. All of this will cost the club something in the region of £10 million. Time to switch off the lights at Ewood.

Maybe such an assessment is understandeable at times over the contractual situation of certain players.
-
Next you will be saying that he has no choice over who he buys and sells aswell. All his purchases have been decided by dodgy agents and advisors of the Venky's, of course not.
-
Kean is a man of integrity. A man who makes his own decisions. He would never be a complete puppet like that.

It really is a complete shambles on how to run a company
Kean is on a pittance of a wage as far as prem managers go , in the region of £15.000 a week , a lot to us but to venkys not a lot as they will milk the parachute payments when the club is finally relegated this year.
Apparantley from sources within the club " It is a complete shambles"
I stopped going over 12 mths ago de-faulting on my season ticket, despite letters from the club i have refused to pay the balance of £175-00.
The reason why was they Venkys broke promises to season ticket holders, i have had a season ticket since 1984, often going in the 100 club and A BOX member , not anymore , and if what i am told there will be no one buying next year , only the real die hard supporters, of which i was once, going to many away games too.
It saddens me to see the club being run like it is , but people who laugh beware it could so easily happen to you , when we have the spineless people at the fa and also a man who is chairman of the LMA , and a regular visitor to Ewood sitting back and doing nothing, hang your head in shame!!!!!!!!!

Surely the question is - has Kean told him he is playing and he has refused or has Kean decided to leave him out because "his mind is not right". Given Givet's absence it will be interesting to see whether our former team captain has the moral fibre to turn in and do the job he gets paid so much to do. The Club is bigger than any one player and if it is necessary to sue Samba then so be it. Samba is suffering far less than any fan throughout this miserable farce and should stop snivelling.

Agree alfa111, Venky's and Kean all need to apologise and leave, not bothered in what order they do the above but as long as they do it NOW!
I'm proper angry at Samba too coz he gets paid a lot more money at Rovers than most players, arguably gets paid the most at the club when we need him committed for the team cause... Committed as in dedicated, not straight jacket committed! Plus with Givet now serving a ban....

As I said earlier Chris if anything has scored an own goal and handed them the 'opportunity'.

He is now pulling in 40000 a week for doing very little. They can't stop his wages so it's money down the drain. His value is decreasing and come then end of the season he won't be worth the 10m or 15m that some people think, not even half that. Not selling him has cost the club millions.
Let's have this right here. There's a lot to critisise kean about but the non playing of samba is not one of them. Our captain is the disgrace here. Ok he wants to leave, promises have been broken etc but to refuse to play is disgraceful. He needs to sort himself out and make himself available, let's face it there will be many players who want to leave but they haven't taken sambas stance.

The point I am making is, that unless you are 'knowledgeable of the dealings inside of Ewood - as fact. And your faith in the owners and Kean is bulletproof. Why should you we trust what they say? I will say again that no one is justifying Sambas actions, but on the reverse side why would we take Keans 'slant' on the situation as reality? Samba as an individual/employee is not the problem and thus his current 'position' is of small matter the the bigger picture. People who 'spin' just love these kind of 'opportunities' to present themselves.
