Blackburn Rovers launch new 'dynamic' pricing structure

BLACKBURN Rovers have reduced prices to £10 for their next home game against Fulham – and they have announced plans to vary the cost of tickets throughout the 2010/11 season.

Rovers’ next match at Ewood Park sees Mark Hughes return to East Lancashire with his new Fulham side for a Premier League clash on Saturday, September 18 at 3pm.

It has been announced that tickets in all areas of the stadium will be available at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

In previous seasons Rovers banded their fixtures into price categories for matchday tickets, depending on the opposition.

But the club have now unveiled plans to vary prices throughout the current campaign based on a number of different factors.

The ‘dynamic pricing policy’ will see prices adjusted depending on the day of the week the match is played on, the ‘attractiveness’ of the opposition, how crucial the match is in terms of league position, whether the game is live on television and even the weather forecast.

Simon Williams, head of commercial and marketing, said: “We are constantly trying to find ways to make watching football at Ewood Park as attractive and appealing as possible.

“The move to introduce ‘dynamic pricing’ comes after discussions with supporters.

"Feedback to our research has provided us with a clear understanding of the many factors which determine whether someone attends or not.

“Our objective is to get as many people here as possible as we strive to continue our magnificent home form and we believe ‘dynamic pricing’ will help to achieve that.

“It is a real innovation in top class football and we hope people are as excited as us at the concept and the possibilities.

“We cannot control the weather, but we can take into account some of the other factors involved and this will affect our pricing of each particular game.”

“The Fulham fixture is not on television and it carries a 3pm kick-off time on a Saturday.

“Fulham do not travel in huge numbers.

"Historically, it does not produce one of our bigger attendances and we felt it was a perfect chance to launch dynamic pricing.

“It is a great all-round offer for everyone.

"We hope we can generate a bigger-than-average crowd for this fixture which will, in turn, create a great atmosphere for what should be a cracking game.”

Just got one question to ask Simon Williams. What happened to those supporters who were supposedly on "Waiting lists" last season for the Blackburn End lower and Riverside stands?.Considering that ST sales haven't increase this season, on the contrary they have considerably decreased may i suggest that somebody was telling porkies in last seasons news letter.Premiership club with Championship support.

This sounds like a great idea if the Club has got its sums right.

.

I hope it gets the publicity it deserves and lots of people take advantage of the keen prices and flock to Ewood to see Rovers first-hand for just a tenner.

Celtic - you have hit the nail on the head with the waiting lists. Is it the quality of football then as the price innitiatives are superb?
.
A few years back I think of the thrill and anticipation of going down to Ewood to watch a front 6 of Tugay, Dunny, Duff, Gillespie, and Matt Jansen playing off Andy Cole or Bent. It was great stuff even if we did not always win we played with real flair and I couldn't wait for games. The football in the Worthington Cup final was special and what a great final for purists.
.
Now Big Sam football is effective but its like Creasoting the fence as Mr Shearer would say even if we win!
.
If we do get £100m to invest in the team can we leave it to Big Sam - I am thinking maybe not if Mr Ali Syed etc want to increase gates and entertain.

I really can't fathom you " Woeful Wovers Supporters" You continually rub it in the noses of Burnley supporters about how long BRFC have been in the Premier, boasting about how they continually play teams such as Arsenal, Chelsea & Man Utd. Then you a) Keep moaning about the style of play BFS instils to maintain that survival and the b) Stay away in droves with empty seats week in week out at home . BRFC a "Supported Team" - "I think not"

Kevin thinks it “a great idea” Kevin doesn’t folk out £369 a season for a ticket..he just likes the idea of seeing more fans whilst he’s watching the game on Tv/internet
.

“…tickets in all areas of the stadium will be available at £10 for adults….”

My season ticket cost me £369 -that equates to £19.42 a game… the cheapest season ticket equates to £11 a game. Thank you for rewarding the true diehard fans who pay their dosh up front ..so at the Fulham game a ‘causal’ fan sat next to me who decides to turn up for a one -off game will have paid £10..£9.42 less than me! thank you again for repaying my loyalty .Mr Williams & Co.

As a long term season ticket holder I'm delighted with these incentives as I much prefer to see a full ground where football is affordable for fans, keep up the good work Rovers!!

Not everyone can to go to all the home games, making a season ticket useless. People have other things to do. I think these incentives are great, plus a casual supporter could become a die-hard. You never know, some people might like watching a solid defense playing a direct style of football rather than ticka-tacka football.

Completely agree rovers_1995. Before someone responds given my name, I obviously don't have a season ticket and probably go to 5 or 6 games a season. However, Iii1111 if you don't think your season ticket is good value, don't buy one. Wouldn't you rather sit and watch a game with 25,000 watching rather than 15,000 'loyal' fans? The point behind the initiative is so that people who wouldn't normally go to the game decide to go because its £10 - they might enjoy it and buy a season ticket next year or they might not, but at least they go!
This attitude that unless you have a season ticket and go to every game you are not allowed to i) be classified as a 'proper' supporter ii) voice an opinion that is widely held on these pages is frankly pathetic and small minded

The said supporter hasn’t sat in the Jack walker stand or any other stand for that matter hence this ‘incentive’ If before I had bought my season ticket I had been given a breakdown of the cost of every individual game but, I wasn’t, so I have to assume that my ST that cost me £369 equates to £19.42 (369/19) a game…so answer me …is it fair that I have paid upfront and its going to cost me £9.42 more than someone else who hasn’t!

The same arguement is heard by every club who try to offer discounted tickets.
.
People who buy season tickets do so for two main reasons. Firstly to support the club and secondly because, subjectively, they are happy to pay £x to watch their team.
.
What difference does it make if the person next to you has a cheaper ticket?

If you just wanted to go to watch Rovers against the likes of Fulham and miss out on the bigger games i.e. Everton and Arsenal then you've obviously made a mistake in buying a season ticket.

The season ticket will give you significantly cheaper prices overall so other than arguing for arguments sake, i don't understand your problem??

Instead you should be proud to support a club that cares about its fans....but if it really grates you so much you could always go and watch our friends down the road for £500 plus?

No, I buy a ST so I can watch any game I wish even though I don’t go to every game because of my location. I’m proud to support BRFC but, not because its “a club cares about the fans“-think your being naïve if you believe that !!
.
People buy a season ticket primarily to save money end of story….“support the club” boll0cks, fans think of numero uno. Incentives like this one make the future purchase of a season ticket less and less attractive ..how many more games will be on offer for a tenner or less!!! What price for a WBA live on Sky, nothing to play for on a wet Monday night ..do I hear £2.50 £1.99..West Ham, Wigan, Wolves & Brum etc.if these forth coming games cost any more than a tenner I’ll eat my hat ..…my season ticket looks less & less value for money!
.
I’m not totally against these new incentives attracting new fans if they are done the right way .ie certain areas in the ground, in block bookings 3 games specials etc…18,500 season tickets have been sold with an extra 3-4 thousand Rovers fans paying on the day according to the first two attendance figures…so automatically on ‘incentive’ games the clubs looses 3-4 thousand fans paying the full asking price, now they’ll be paying a tenner. The incentive is only going to work financially if it attracts double that number extra!

Obviously you only attend a few games a season because of your job, so in your position it would be crazy for you to shell out for a season ticket but, no matter what incentives the club tries it isn’t going to get fans like you attending on a permanent basis!

Using ther same logic your ticket for the games against Everton and Arsenal was over £19 cheaper than buying a match day ticket.

What does it matter as long as the season ticket works out as a better deal over the course of the season than buying individual match tickets?

I pay the same price as you for my JW season ticket. I could`nt care less if they let fans in for a quid. If it fills Ewood and helps the team that is all that matters.

Look at the bigger picture. These incentives are all about encouraging 'casual' fans to become regulars and eventually new season ticket holders. Even with massive new investment we still need to increase our fan base and regular home support to challenge the big city clubs. Or is your £9.62 for one match more important to you than the long term future of the club?
